Isn’t it amazing the number of former servicemen who’ve been attacked for no good reason, often by people who served too. Back in the ‘60s that was really looked down on by decent people. No, I’m not forgetting the way some people behaved to our guys coming back from Vietnam. It happened but I don’t remember anyone having a good thing to say about the people doing it except for the radicals. Now it comes from people supposedly from a better social class but are truly trash. Suits and ties do not make people better judges of their fellowman. Thank you Mr. McCain for your dedication to our country. I hope you outlive your detractors.

The White House is so filled with scum Mr. Clean and the Tidy Bowl man woud need an army to clean it out. I often disagreed with McCain, but he is a man of honor, something nobody serving Trump would understand.

I have had enormous policy differences with McCain and glad Obama won in 2008 and not him.

I did not respect his choice for VP candidate Sarah Palin.

But … I have enormous respect for him that he was offered early POW release and refused unless/until all those with capture dates ahead of his were also released (causing him to remain tortured and imprisoned for several more years).

I have enormous respect for him that, when a woman asked him about Obama being a Muslim, even in the heat of the campaign, he shot her down, defended Obama on personal grounds, but questioned him on policy grounds (while I agreed with Obama on the policy differences, I can respect McCain for recognizing the distinction).

Douglas MacArthur famously said, “Old soldiers never die; they simply fade away.” John McCain is no saint. But he is an old soldier. He has not died yet, but he will never fade away.

DD WIZ, DROUTMA, et al., I agree very much with what you wrote about Senator McCain.

This Saturday I sent Senator McCain my thanks for his service and best wishes. I sent it through his web page:

    https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/

At the right side of the page is a contact heading. At the bottom of that list is ‘Well Wishes’. I hope many of us will take a minute and send Senator McCain our thanks and support.

The White House does not regret saying this, however, it is embarrassed that its true feelings are now clear. Its fake patriotism and fake morality are just as evident.

FFS Benson, can’t you get his medals correct? The DFC goes after the Legion of Merit and before the Bronze Star. After the Purple Heart are: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal w/“V” and bronze “2”, Navy Commendation with “V” and Gold Star, Combat Action Ribbon, POW Medal, Navy Expeditionary medal, Nat’l Defense Service medal w/bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal w/2 bronze stars, RVN Nat’l Order of VN (Commander), RVN Meritorious Unit Citation, RVN Vietnam Campaign medal.

McCain used to be an ordinary Republican, didn’t much like his policies, but he seemed to be a decent enough guy. In today’s DC, he seems like a shining example of what a congressman should be. He hasn’t changed a bit, but tarnished gold shines in a cesspool.

What I find the most despicable is that there is no outrage in the White House about the comment per se, only that it was leaked to the press. Senator McCain represents a time when we could disagree on policy without impugning either the patriotism or loyalty of the opposition.

You know Trump loves this stuff. White House staffer Kelly Sadler will be Trump’s new employee of the month. She might get to meet Kim Jong Un.

    Speaking of back stabbers in the White House;

    www.axios.com/…

This White House leaks like there’s no tomorrow.

… The leaks come in all shapes and sizes: small leaks, real-time leaks, weaponized leaks, historical leaks. Sensitive Oval Office conversations have leaked, and so have talks in cabinet meetings and the Situation Room. You name it, they leak it.

… we learn more about what’s going on inside the Trump White House in a week than we did in a year of the George W. Bush presidency.… meetings called to bemoan leaks begin with acknowledgement the bemoaning will be leaked, which is promptly leaked…by several leakers in a smallish roomClowns. It’d be funny if they weren’t leaking our national secrets for personal gain

“To cover my tracks, I usually pay attention to other staffers’ idioms and use that in my background quotes. That throws the scent off me,” the current White House official added. That explains why the Moron In Chief keeps firing people but can’t plug the leaks. Maybe he’s firing the wrong swamp creatures. Nah, they’re all the right swamp creatures.

“you have to realize that working here is kind of like being in a never-ending ‘Mexican Standoff.’ Everyone has guns (leaks) pointed at each other and it’s only a matter of time before someone shoots. There’s rarely a peaceful conclusion so you might as well shoot first.”

Fascist keystone cops playing dress up Barbie secret agent. With nukes. Their disloyalty to their own administration is outmatched only by their disloyalty to America and the Constitution.

    Lock em all up.

he doesn’t want a president who was captured by the Russians.

I had sympathy for McCain, and greater willingness to listen, when he was under attack in Bush-Cheney-Rove’s ‘swiftboat’ attack. And puzzled when these Republicans stopped bringing up his war record when it was the McCain Palin ticket. Palin hillbilly chic was the liability. Get the impression it’s ALL about winning and their moral compass shifts in the wind

Btw, I always suspected much of what McCain came up with was a result of his PTSD, as I didn’t go through anything as severe as he, but still “caught” it. It was what he ACCOMPLISHED with most of his actions, and how he held it together that made me admire him more, even if we weren’t on the same team politically. We WERE on the same team in ’Nam.

Actually, old soldiers do die. Unfortunately, so do too many young ones.

But at least some of both accomplish a lot before they go. (And John McCain isn’t gone, yet.)

This man is NO “war hero”!

Someone mentioned “…he could have been spared the torture…” Well, he WAS “spared the torture”. He spilled his “guts” to his captors about flight patterns, altitudes and maneuvers… he helped train anti-aircraft batteries which resulted in more than 60(!!) of his fellows pilots being shot down.

He made numerous anti-American recordings and films for the North Vietnamese to use for further their propaganda campaigns in the US.

He would have been court martial deal and given a dishonorable discharge if not for a pardon given him by “Tricky Dick” Nixon. That pardon was given solely because McCain’s dad was an admiral. Without that influence, we would have never heard of him after his release.

Someone else mentioned themselves a liberal and didn’t like McCain’s politics… well, nobody truly “liked” his politics because his “politics” were often more SELF-serving than sticking with his party or his constituents.

I feel sorry for him because his “brain cancer” has made him think as a senile old man. His bitterness for his loss against Obama is unrelenting. He can only blame himself as most folks in his own party would not vote for him.

The only people who like him now are those who hate trumpy… if his bitterness did not spill over to the president, even THEY wouldn’t like him.
