Nancy: I love my new fountain pen.
Card reads: This pen will write FIFTEEN years without refilling. Wow---This string is going to get awful DIRTY.
Aunt Fritzi: What string?
Nancy: This one---To remind me to refill my pen on March 7, 1964.

Maybe you should write it down somewhere?

No pen will write 15 years with one filling. Also, I loathe fountain pens. The tip always broke or bend on me.

That pen will be lost, damaged or forgotten in a drawer someplace long before that 15 years is up… looks as though these strips are coming from all years now, despite the scrubbing of the original copyright dates.

Back in the early 1970’s I used to buy Sheaffer cartridge fountain pens.

Always got to have something to worry about (my wife is needy that way, too).

That’s a pretty big ink reservoir.

The idea of ANY pen lasting for 15 years seems ludicrous today. But, quality pens can last that long…. but… the idea that any pen (fountain or other) will be able to use the same ink for 15 years….. nah… not possible.
But, the strip was wonderfully cute… and just thinking about fountain pens brought back pleasant memories. They were (to me) always enjoyable to write with. Perhaps I should look into buying one and carrying it around and using it again…. it will help me look even more “old school” than I already do! :)

That’s a great pen, I think the art of penmanship has almost been lost in many ways, I remember getting post cards and letters all the time , now days you get an email or a text…I miss getting letters and post cards from family and friends.

It’s great that Go Comics made it possible for us to guess that this strip was penned in 1949. I wish they’d go back to noting the original publication date of the strips! I was wondering the other day if all of the “deep snow” strips had been penned during the year of the 1948-49 blizzards which blanketed the Western states and led to the use of Operation Hay Lift to rescue stranded livestock and rural families!
