Once known as being polite, having manners, not trying to start a war with everybody.

Sometimes it is. Other times it’s a word used by racists to describe anyone who isn’t as bigoted as they are (nearly everyone). If you think the whole world is too politically correct, you are the problem.

When I was a little boy, my mother- and my grandmother- taught me words to live by: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”

Now, it’s been corrupted to say: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names hurt forever.”

When are people ever going to realise that you cannot heal that way? THANK GOD I was given the opportunity to have good counseling that helped me to take control of my life and not let others’ opinions of me control my life!

No one can make you feel ANYTHING without your total cooperation. And I am not responsible for how YOU feel, either. But don’t take that to mean that I don’t care, or that I would intentionally be rude to anyone. That is not what it means. It just means, we all have differences of opinion and we all must be able to agree to disagree. Otherwise, society breaks down.

One of the worst things that has been happening, right from Kindergarten up, is the teaching (whether intentional or by default) that someone else is responsible for a child’s feelings. This does not result in a healthy id, nor does it equip a person for life.

Once, I was in a session where we were asked: “Where does your self esteem come from?” My answer: “What I choose to believe about myself.”

Another person answered: “What other people say about me.” Very sad.

And yet words can kill. How many have been destroyed socially on the Internet and then killed themselves over it? To a Reich Winger they are weak. Useless and should to make room for the strong. Their version of strong, of course.

No, NIGHT-GAUNT, words can’t kill. They can’t do anything unless you let them. I can see that this is where you are having difficulty in understanding what we are trying to say. It is so vitally important to teach children this concept from a very early age. Instead, we have a virtual industry built up around the concept of “he hurt my feelings”- amplified by aggressive lawyers and badly written laws. Not only has this ended up with unfair court judgements, but it has increased the problem of bullying, not decreased it. Yes, people who internalize name-calling are weak- but DON’T BLAME THEM, society has gone out of its way to teach them to wear their emotions on their sleeves. We’ve done a damnably bad job of teaching kids- all people, for that matter- how to have a good self-image, regardless of our station in life. ALL lives matter!

And political leanings have nothing to do with it.
