Let him get his work done Elly. You don’t want the job half finished. You can talk on the phone another time.

He got a right ear-bashing after hammering that wainscot while the missus was on the blower.

Again, it’s nice to see Lynn having her “alter ego” be the silly, “incorrect” one. For all the snark thrown Lynn’s way over this strip, her “correcting” her family life, and the way the characters behave, she’s totally unafraid to make Elly look silly or even stupid.

At first I thought the Rubbles had moved in next door.

Elly is the one who demanded the kitchen be remodeled, ergo Elly has no right to groan about John doing the work. Unless the call was something akin to an important job offer or that her parents are in the hospital, it can wait. Another idea could be for Elly to go to another part of the house where the noise is muffled, and call Mrs. Enjo there.

Ellie, Carol lives right next door. If you want to talk to her, just walk over to her house.

I am getting annoyed with Elly. She is such a complainer. She could figure out a way to keep busy besides talking on the phone. I see her sitting around while John is hard at work. Why doesn’t she join John and help? Hand him the nails? Give him the panels? Hold the rail? That was what I did. Elly is such a self-centered person.

It’s a comic strip people, it’s supposed to be funny, so get over yourselves. A power nail gun not a good idea in a house with kids. Somebody could get hurt if one of the kids started playing with it. I prefer using screws though, they don’t come poking out of the wood.

I keep my landline phone because in a power failure it will still work!

Bet Liz can’t wait to get home and tattle on Mike! However, if she is smart, she will realize she now has an ace in the game of “tattle poker” (a term from Baby Blues), ie she may someday do something stupid herself and want Mike to keep quiet! (Oh, smart doesn’t seem to run in this family!)

I would like to use a landline for back up, but one months cost is more than a year of Magic Jack and one month on my cell phone combined.

Our first phone was cordless, hanging on the wall and you stood up to talk into the mouthpiece. (The one-wire, ground return whoop and holler type) About six to twelve on the party line. No dial, just a crank – our first number was 4 on 40, ie 4 short rings on line 40. Then in mid 50s REA came out with two-wire dial service, with 9 persons on our line! Each phone had a tuned ringer, but anyone could listen in if they picked up at the right time!

Where were all the “its just a comic” commenters two months ago, when Thelma Baird died? The tone of the strip was somber and there was not much guffawing. Guess the “just a comic” crowd was on vacation.

The “just a comic” crowd has a low opinion of comics and that includes strips. To them they are just frivolous and anyone who finds more in them are daft. The Japanese would beg to differ on that as a sizable numbers of readers.
