Sadly true, and it’s actually been going on for a long time. “The Troubles of Journalism”, Hachten, 2001 second edition traces it.

    “You want answers?”

    “I think I’m entitled to.”

    “You want answers?”

    “I want the truth!”

    “You can’t handle the truth!”

The beginning of the end was directly traced back to the day FAUX Noise signed on the air.

@interventor. Yes, the NY Times erred with their reporting on the Stalin-created famine in Ukraine. But they also investigated the matter with objectivity years later and reported on the investigation. Interesting that you chose this subject from 1932 involving Russia and Ukraine as proof of media bias. The choice of this example may tell us a bit more about you than about the contemporary NY Times. I have always wondered about your background, as you are quite skilled at citing selective examples that appear legitimate, but upon closer inspection, always miss the mark. But the very fact that you cite such examples differentiates you from the republicans or the trump crowd. I wonder why. I have heard of Russian trolls on this site, but have never really believed it. Now, I’m not so sure. Your approach to your comments is unique and stands out from the other right wing posters who are more in the trumpy world with its schoolyard taunts and solipsistic nonsense. Your solipsistic nonsense appears to have substance, but invariably consists of half truths. Interesting and odd.

RLCKNIGHT and TXGAL “Samuel Alito makes clear in his decision that, according to the Supreme Court, it no longer matters in America if something is actually true as long you believe it to be true.” This is counter to the reality of Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s famous quote: “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts”. People like Scalia and Alito based their ideas on religious doctrine. A practice that has been dangerous for humans since time immemorial. Most of this comes from the Hobby Lobby case where the Supreme Court ruled that corporations were people more important than women. Somebody please save us from these fanatics. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/7/1/1310855/-SCOTUS-Yes-you-ARE-entitled-to-your-own-facts

    I’ve said this before:

    .

Occam’s razor – the simplest explanation that describes an event is most likely to be true.

    .

The more convoluted and conspiracy-ridden explanation that describes and event is most likely to be believed.

    .

Scientific American describes this phenomenon as “The Echo Chamber.” We seek only that news that conforms to our preconceived personal beliefs.

One of the best journalistic sources in the country for several years was Al-Jazeera America. But they couldn’t get many cable providers to carry their programming (wonder why), so they eventually had to shut down — a real-life version of today’s Non Sequitur.

The NYT hired climate denier Bret Stevens. So much for “all the news that’s fit to print”.

If you want real, researched, in depth and complex news, folks, you’re going to have to do it yourselves. Which is the way it always has been and always should be and always will be. You really think news coverage was better with Walter Cronkite? Even he didn’t know it all. Stop whining. . .

That’s what happens when a handful of corporations own most of the media. They stop reporting news and start reporting their own propaganda.
