According to my German ex-boss, Germans don’t actually say “Gesundheit!” when someone sneezes.

As the celebrity once said (forget who), “At last, some English I can understand.”

Sorry, I posted mine before I read the rest.

I still say tsu gezunt which is Yiddish for ‘to your health.’

That’s ‘coughantschoo’.

That would be one heck of a sneeze! Unless you were having a problem already, that is.

I think I’ll try that, the next time someone sneezes I’ll say kerfanblu and note the results.

Been living in Germany the last two decades, and they say “G’sundheit” even to total strangers sneezing in their vicinity. In our family we’ve adopted this habit too. Mostly because our own traditional “prosit” is conceived as “Prost” – meaning “cheers” in German.

I’m a American-German and I say, “You’re so good looking”. Yes, I watch that Jewish show, with all due respect.
