If there was an award for that, everybody would be covered in medals.

I’ve got two of those – just for turning up.

Note that the US Military actually gives those out. Campaign Medals.

They should pin it on his back.

The military does issue battle ribbons to soldiers whose unit was involved in combat

Actually a high proportion of military medals are just for having been in the fight. There’s a famous trio of participation medals given to British soldiers in World War One which were regarded as so common that they became known as Pip, Squeak and Wilfrid, after famous newspaper cartoon characters of the day.

Participation in war, no matter how tangential, or whether you are military or civilian, is something that nobody should have to endure.

Wow, I didn’t know Rodney was a millennial.

What would fit Sir Rodney even better is the Purple Heart – a medal for being wounded.

And finally, there were the medals I received in the Air Force: a Good Conduct medal for staying out of trouble for 3 years and a Longevity medal for 4 years of service – as ground crew in peace time. But at least I didn’t get one just for completing boot camp – that one started later, sometime in the 1980’s.

Liberal progressive bull crap, everyone deserves a participation medal for everything.

As long as it wasn’t awarded posthumously!

That which all have is that which none appreciate.

I keep getting Perfect Attendance awards, just for showing up every day. It must be harder than it seems because nobody else is near me for 11 years.

When you participate in any combat, you should get a medal of Valor!

I got a National Defense ribbon in 1969. That was a participation award.

I see it hasn’t stopped rudeness either.

I tell people- “50% of the effort in a job is showing up on time”. I also say- “50% of the effort by a team in a successful project is expended in the last 15% of the project.”
