    Lots of beverage containers and Janis sure looks hot in the first panel with her sleeveless tank top. However, in the last panel the top appears to have grown sleeves. Interesting.

    Years ago I worked for a British owned company, and got to be pretty good friends with one of the guys from the home office. Typical obnoxious Brit, but he was open and honest about it ;-).

    His favorite line about the U.S. was “We just loaned you the Colonies, we’ll come take them back one of these days”.

    I think the Brits – with over 9-centuries of self-rule prior to joining the EU – will be fine. And, as the 2nd largest economy in Europe, it appears the EU needs the Brits more than the Brits need the EU.

    At the time of the Revolution, Philadelphia had the second largest population of British cities in this hemisphere. Second to London.

    The E.U. was doomed from the start … too much nationalism resident in the “states”, and not enough “union” identity.

    I look at Brexit as being roughly of a similar situation to our Trump candidacy…. both the Brexit vote and Trump as nominee show widespread dissatisfaction with “status quo” politics as usual. I worry for the UK and I worry about the US if Trump is elected.

    @jski14, I’m guessing you actually ARE 14, to be making such a juvenile comment about a drawing.

    If it was just Janis and Arlo at the 4th party… it does indeed look like there was a moderately hefty amount of drinking going on with a six pack and a bottle of wine in the imagery. Must have been fun. :)

    There was as much or more angst among the colonists after the revolution as in Britain today. Read some of the historical diatribes about the founding fathers, if you want to see some red-hot tempers. A lot of people fled to Canada, hoping the British would return.

    @fredd13 — right on Fredd!

    @Chrisstopher“Ireland wants the rest of their country back since that is the only reason why the UK flag hasn’t changed back to the pre-1808 version.”.Ireland as a piece of land doesn’t.Ireland as a nation might.Many in Northern Ireland haven’t, may yet.In the past, neighbors blew each other up for disagreeing politically where to kiss rumps.

    Canada faced the same issues our founders in the USA did, and things worked out very well for them.

    “After 1788 Australia became said dumping ground for pick pockets, prostitutes, the poor, drunks and anyone else they did not desire to live in their home country.”. From:http://www.crf-usa.org/bill-of-rights-in-action/bria-11-2-a-beyond-the-seas-the-transportation-of-criminals-to-australia.hen Governor Phillip returned to Britain, New South Wales had survived five harsh years to become largely self-sufficient.

    Who were these convicts transported to Australia? About three-quarters were young, single men and women. Most were common thieves (called “sneaksmen”) from London and other British cities. Fewer than 5 percent were transported for violent crimes. Some were political offenders, mainly from rebellious Ireland and Scotland . (My folks in the Huie clan escaped to Georgia, after independence. Nonetheless, they did clear out the Scots to make room for sheep. dhg) Male convicts outnumbered females 6 to 1. Although none of the women were transported for prostitution , many were forced to become prostitutes after landing in Australia. Frequently, female convicts ended up as “prisoners of the prisoners” and were sold like slaves."

    .“Between 1788 and 1868, 160,000 convicts were transported to Australia. But this did little to deter crime in Britain. The government was unable to convince the “criminal class” that transportation was a terrible punishment when most convicts chose to remain in Australia after serving their sentences . What transportation did accomplish, however, was the creation of a new people and eventually a new nation known, ironically, for its law-abiding people and low crime rate. When transportation ended, about 40 percent of Australia’s English-speaking population had come to the “land down under” as convicted criminals. Transportation to Australia worked but not as its originators intended..“(I guess it was better than summary execution like the Germans did during their Nazi period 1933 – 1945) ..Yes, it was better.Folks opted to stay in Australia.Even if the charges were minor, at least the British actually charged people with crimes (except in the clearing for sheep part) rather than just for being Jewish, Roma, gay, whatever struck their anti-fancy..That has something to do with why so many Americans of Irish, Scotish, Welsh and even British descent wanted the USA to side with Germany in the first World War, better people.

    @jski14 is a troll who chose to make some ugly, derogatory comments about Janis’ body and personal appearance and got slapped for it. I don’t see it here anymore, so I assume it was deleted.
