Jimmy Carter set the standard for how an ex-President should behave: engaged with humanity, working to improve the lives of others. George W. Bush follows the model set by Richard Nixon: retire from the world in disgrace and live in seclusion, except to make an occasional high-priced speech to a group of dóuchebags.
Clinton: Start a foundationBush II: Hide out and paint and take money for speechesReagan: Take money for speechesCarter: Help the poor, become a global ambassadorHm…
I still cringe a bit at the memory that I voted against Carter in 76 (but I voted for him in 80, for all the good that did). I didn’t trust him. I hope I’ve gotten a little bit smarter since then. And I very much hope his cancer is truly gone.
@BHALL77801I don’t think it’s supposed to be Carter. I think the doc has been reading about Carter being cancer-free, made a leap in logic that Carter’s actions with Habitat for Humanity somehow cured him of cancer, and is now recommending Habitat for Humanity as a therapy for this new patient with cancer.
The credit for Carter’s cure goes to cutting edge medical treatment, but he is a better life role model than any other former President.BTW, the gas rationing & price controls that conservatives blame Carter for were put in place by Nixon & Ford.
Only God knows where I’ll be after I’m dead, but I hope that in a hundred years from now, I can read some books about American history during the previous 150 years, by American and non-American authors. LOVE to see what really went on, and how presidents Eisenhower through Obama, and a few after, are perceived. (Even ol’ Scratch might let me do that!)
I wish Mr. Carter all the best, and continued good health. He’s as fine a man as has served as President. Not a particularly effective President, though.
Absolutely correct. Reagan’s team undertook traitorous negotiations with a hostile country for political reasons. And they think Carter is a bad leader?

That doesn’t look the least bit like Jimmy Carter.

Doing good works never hurts, even if it doesn’t cure cancer.
