Missed being able to see or comment on Sunday’s strip. Maybe this IS an ongoing story, despite what I thought previously. VARIOUS deceased villains in this upcoming production (could PuttyPuss be involved in the depictions? – At least, HE’S still alive!). Once again (NO MATTER WHAT), I will still love this story!

So funny that the boys are discussing the lawsuit issues I’d raised awhile back.

@RayToler wrote late last nightI think this whole thing looks like the first act of an Agatha Christie play. All of Tracy’s worst villains are gathered in one place ONLY they turn out to be actors playing Tracy villains THEN one by one they start being murdered WE KNOW one is guilty but not which one THEN the REAL TRACY uses his DEDUCTIVE ABILITY to SOLVE THE CRIME.

It’s not quite a scenario like The Mousetrap, which would require a closed set where no-one could enter or leave, and one of them was the murderer. At this point, it’s possible that a crime could be committed by someone within the production or outside the production, but Tracy using his deductive ability to solve the crime would be great to see.

So far, it’s a little premature to be talking about solving a crime, since we haven’t seen one yet (at least in “real life” Tracy world), but some sort of crime is bound to show up in the next several days. This has great potential to not be one of those things where the crime solves itself and Tracy comes wandering in at the last minute. Let’s see where it goes.

Why was it “88 Keyes” who was killed in the fictional prologue?

Also, Chief Boche had said, “Not Again! 88 Keyes is dead!” – Indicating additional related homicides.

Which other member/members of the Rogues Gallery had been summarily offed?

Is there a significance?

And is “Adam Austin,” as in real life, a pseudonym for someone we’d know?

Who would cast Flattop as the hero, and Tracy as the villain?

Blowtop?

Or someone else?

Ah, old Flintheart still has it! As I read it, he delivers quite a zinger in the 3rd panel. Give him a two-bit supporting part and risk the wrath of his “solicitors” (lawyers, for those who speak only American)! Meanwhile, the exposition continues, as Coffee has apparently been been off living under a rock and is frightfully unaware of current events in Tracyville….

Is the fact that the “Midnight Mirror” stories take their title from a fictional newspaper a clue?

I’m reminded of how noted science fiction writer “James Tiptree, Jr.” turned out to be a pseudonym for author Alice Sheldon.

Maybe in this case, “Adam Austin” really is Wendy Wichel.

Or Wichel collaborating with Blowtop.

Other potential authors …

P.S. Tone- It would amuse if the author of a caricature of * Dick Tracy* were in fact a himself caricature of creator Chester Gould.

Bud Jenkins- Yes, I know he’s dead, but his almost ‘Mary Sue’-like relationship to Flattop in-story would definitely resonate.

Vera Alldid- It’s almost certainly not Vera, though I could see Vera encouraging Tracy to sue, just to generate publicity. And it would definitely count as Agatha Christie-level misdirection.

Sharptop- Still alive – so far as we know – and arguably ‘sharp’ enough to ‘channel’ his brother into a meta-fictional series.

Of course, sometimes an ‘Adam Austin’ is just an ‘Adam Austin.’

On the subject of alternate versions of Dick Tracy …

Found this fan-art awhile back, looks like what TMS Studios of Japan might have produced, had they been commissioned to work on a Dick Tracy animated series based upon the Warren Beatty movie …

Gotta admit, I really like these.

Too bad no one stateside seems interested in producing this sort of material nowadays.

A “Young Justice” style series, with access to 80+ years of newspaper continuity, would be a blast.

One thing is certain: they will be filming in the theater.Coffee’s newspaper headline reads "It’s “Midnite” at the Patterson Playhouse."-Hmm. Will Blackjack try to stop the movie? Will someone start killing the actors, one by one? Will Sam tell Tracy he’s going to sue, even if Tracy doesn’t like it, because Sam’s not a public figure.

This has the potential to rise to “Soap Opera Wedding” levels of lunacy~!!

Isn’t Warren Beatty the reason why a Tracy film never gets produced? He holds the copyright but won’t give anyone permission to use the characters?____________________

Well, there’s that, too.

Perpetual, unbreakable contracts of that type are also the reason we might never get to see a proper “Marvel Cinematic Universe” iteration of the Fantastic Four …

What’s ironic is, the television climate has never been more prepped to positively receive a live-action Dick Tracy Show, given how popular both “Superhero” shows and “Police Procedurals” are nowadays.

Offer a heaping helping of “The Fugitive” style pursuits, stir in some scientific sleuthing, add a dash of coat-and-fedora panache with a side order of season-long story arc, and you’ll cook up a cross-media souffle that can’t miss.

…

Dang.

I’ve just made myself hungry.

Since Beatty has the rights, someone has to convince him to actually make that TV show or movie or at least something.

Panel 2 threw me this morning, because they’ve got the speech balloon pointing toward the reflection, rather than Vitamin himself. I thought at first this was a tiny error, but maybe Joe is making visual sight gags to go along with this “reverse” story line?

Actually Night-Gaunt49’s emoticon was the one that was the inspiration.

While I’ve never actually seen (or read) “10 Little Indians,” I think it follows the classic Agatha Christie whodunnit format where the characters are isolated from the rest of the world and one of them (or maybe several of them) had to be the murderer. I don’t see that happening on the movie set, although there might be some scenario that such a situation could take place. We will have to watch as it unfolds. It should be interesting, I think.
