Three or more “hits” is a mass shooting. That is a tone-deaf record.

I don’t know. I just DO NOT know. The overwhelming problem we now confront with respect to gun control is that the horse departed that barn years, even centuries, ago, and here many of us are still wasting our time trying to decide if and how we should secure door. Well gosh, maybe the horse will come back. Fat chance, and a fat lot of good closing the door now will do in any case. Pardon me now while I go howl at the moon.

A most unhappy, confused over-materialistic society. And, scared.

Greed of the gun manufacturers + NRA fear mongering + soulless politicians = wanton killing.

It means to many crooks & nut jobs on the streets. These DO NOT INCLUDE Good common folk that are protecting themselves. To say they can’t have protection is a violation of their rights.

Define mass shooting? More than one person hit? More than one person in the area?

I’m sure there is a sensible way to make America a safe place to be without arming or disarming everyone, but that counts on having actual LEADERS (not an ineffective perpetual partisan binary gridlock) in Washington who can change the culture and not just write unenforcible laws and pray for the dead.

Mr. Toles is correct. This year we have had MORE than one mass shooting per day, using the criterion of four or more people shot (not killed, but shot), which can include the gunman. The FBI limits it to three or more people killed, but that makes the numbers look better than they really are; after all, being shot is bad for you even if you live, and it shows just what a ridiculous number of shooters we have here. This is not an issue of “mental health,” this is an epidemic go guns. This is not something that should be addressed by more guns, or “good men with guns.” The evidence clearly shows that more guns equals more deaths – murders and suicides. (http://www.vox.com/2015/8/24/9183525/gun-violence-statistics).Furthermore, we know EXACTLY what to do. Australia did it.

This website tracks the number of mass shootings—with citations, mostly news reports—in the US. Sadly, Mr. Toles appears to have the number correct for 2015.

To many guns in the hands of some who should not have them. Universal background checks need ASAP.

‘Reppr said, “I, for one, do not believe the number cited.”.The numbers are the result of quantitative measurement, not of “belief.”’

Great comment, Hiram! You win this thread.

When a white person shoots black people and declares that he is shooting them because they’re black, yes, it’s white bigotry. The black shooter was antagonistic to everyone he came across, and had made a threat to his ex-boss when he was fired. I seriously doubt race had anything to do with that. Not to say there aren’t blacks who shoot whites because they’re white, but this pretty clearly wasn’t one of them.

Define “mass shooting”, fully. Liars’ figures lie; it’s about time somebody told Toles.
