At this rate, it will take Sam 7 years to graduate. But then again, it took her parents and their friends almost 13 years to get out of college.

I thought Sam was a more motivated person. Guess not. A motivated person wouldn’t be interested in today’s Walden…

I like how she has BD’s eyes and chin and Boopsie’s hair and profile. Pretty nice work.

Walden doesn’t sound like the school my daughter will be attending next year at all.

Veteran benefits have been under attack throughout the years, regardless of who is in office. The GOP did not support those who served in terms of benefits, instead they overspent in terms of weapons, which serves no one. Jimmy Carter has raised the bar for all ex-presidents in terms of what he has done once he left office. His humanitarian efforts have been tremendous. He has worked on housing for the poor, removing guinea worms in developing countries, fair and open voting practices and many other important issues. At 90, he is now fighting cancer. God bless him. I wish him well and hope he can overcome this too, though at 90, I know it will be an uphill battle. It is unusual for a man of his age to not be battling dementia and incapacitated. Jimmy Carter remains exceptional.

We didn’t go to war under Jimmy Carter. He wasn’t perfect but he did a far better job than many would assert. Being POTUS is no piece of cake. Presidents are only human. They have monumental tasks. There are also checks and balances. Everything that takes place is not entirely up to the POTUS. I tend to always want to look for a diplomatic outlet for the conflicts we face. However, there will always be a need for a military solution at times. Even the recent incident of a terrorist on a European train reminded us of that just this past week. Thanks to some brave off-duty US service members, many more people did not die.

I wish high school had been like Walden. But then I’d probably be an ignoramus. Well, more than I am already….. ; )

Perhaps this is the reference that you missed:

I enlisted in 80, under the Republican VEAP program. Thank goodness it got better over the years. I now have an Assoc from Community College of the Air Force, a BA from Excelsior for equivalent study and an MA from Univ. of Cincinnati, thanks to Veterans Rehab program. The VA does take care of Vets, but we have to be proactive, like you said. Oh, and God Bless Jimmy Carter!

I think you focused on the least important word in my post. Unless I read Bob’s post incorrectly, he was wishing that Carter had died before he had the chance to cut off Bob’s GI Bill, and asserting that Carter’s dying now was too late to benefit Bob. Whether Bob specifically refers to cancer or not, I think that’s a pretty appalling sentiment.

“You have a ready answer for when they come soliciting for Habitat For Humanity.”.Habitat for Humanity was having financial problems in Pensacola so they lumped a number of homes together and sold them to a realtor. A few were worth more than the total sale, a few had been so destroyed by their inhabitants that they will be leveled and replaced by paid laborers..At least they tried.

" I was not aware Mr. C. had a cancer going. I wish him well on getting a stability that allows him a few more years, anyway".Cancer in his liver had spread to his brain. Four cancers about a millimeter in diameter.Undergoing radiation treatment now..We shall see..With any luck, the results of the Human Genome Project under President Clinton will yield targeted chemotherapy treatments which will attach to proteins found exclusively in cancerous cells and most cancers will soon become a minor illness, easily treatable, including President Carter’s..We can hope.

“What happened in the Iran rescue attempt was dreadful and not his doing.”.Actually, it was.He said so and he didn’t’ lie.He tried to micromanage the operation and used the wrong equipment and ignored the right team with the right equipment.Otherwise, in all likelihood, the attempt would have been successful..The man meant well but tried to do more than was humanly possible rather than delegate as the job requires.

“I’m sure Pres. Carter would have been hailed a hero had the hostages been gotten out.”.Possibly but not by the ambassador who had been begging for protection or extraction only to be ignored because President Carter was so busy trying to do some other critical things.

Alex was born in 1988, Samantha in 1992. Alex is now a married mother with a graduate degree, clearly appropriate for a woman of 27. Samantha should be 23 now, but she’s just starting college? Of course Jeff, who was born in 1982, was last seen living in his parents basement, but that’s just Jeff.

Jimmy Carter is a very good man. I would be honored to have him live near me or attend my church. He has done a lot of good since he was president. As president, he was a disaster.

Two ENTIRELY different budgets. .No, it’s the Federal Budget..History shows us that Congress is More than Willing (Eager might be the best word) to shaft America’s Veterans just as soon as they receive their Discharge Papers..
