No, it was because they hadn’t yet discovered the tools to put a good edge on their skis.

Seven years ago, when I was first starting at my current job, I noticed a pretty picture in his office. He told me it was Sunday River. He then asked me if I liked to ski. I said – and I quote – “If God had meant for me to ski, I would have been born with 10’-long feet.” That is when I found out that he was an avid skier. He still teases me about that to this day.

Once their skis hit the bare mountain, their interest, like them, will have hit its peak.

Survival on flat land is hard enough without adding those extra 22 seconds for skiing.

I wonder who first got the bright idea to strap a couple of boards to one’s feet and slide down the mountain. Maybe it was an early attempt at suicide.

I tried snow skiing years ago, and after many futile attempts at self destruction, I gave the gear to my brother in law, who actually was able to somewhat master the sport!

On a related subject, water skiing was invented in 1922 in Minnesota on Lake Pepin when Ralph Samuelson used a pair of boards as skis and a clothesline as a towrope in Lake City, Minnesota. For those who don’t know, Lake Pepin is part of the Mississippi River…

It’s faster going up if you don’t put the skis on until you get to the top.
