I don’t care how old you are, when you reach the end, it’s too short.

Taken out of context that quote may be misinterpreted, In context he is saying that life outside of society would be such not life in general.

Almost a duplicate: http://www.gocomics.com/frazz/2004/12/02But both versions are funny. And hey, it’s always better than reruns!

It kind loses the joke when the quote is deliberately misinterpreted.

Hobbes was fine with it.
“Whatsoever therefore is consequent to a time of Warre, where every man is Enemy to every man; the same is consequent to the time, wherein men live without other security, than what their own strength, and their own invention shall furnish them withall. In such condition, there is no place for Industry; because the fruit thereof is uncertain; and consequently no Culture of the Earth; no Navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by Sea; no commodious Building; no Instruments of moving, and removing such things as require much force; no Knowledge of the face of the Earth; no account of Time; no Arts; no Letters; no Society; and which is worst of all, continuall feare, and danger of violent death; And the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short.”
Context is everything

Says the guy who can never find enough time for all he wants to do, vainly staying off atrophy by motion, and another guy with the same issues.Nice use of contrast.

A thousand years isn’t enough. The world is too full of wonder to experience it all. Life will always be too short.

I used to say I’d rather live a fast forty than a slow sixty . . . but I wasn’t 68 when I said it.

Frazz must have liked Hobbes. He even named his tiger after him when he was a kid.

Hobbes was well off. He wasn’t talking about his life, he was thinking of the peasants and serfs who lived a class or 2 below him. It’s a known fact that life only lengthens for the rich. The life expectancy for the poor are shorteniing for those of us in poverty.

I thinks what he meant was life is short no matter how long you live. To a 20 year old, 40 is a lifetime away. To a 40 year old 20 was yesterday. Imagine being 80 and wonder were the time went and all the things you wanted to do but never had time.

To think, all this time and I never knew Hobbes had a first name…
