Speaking of B&W movies, Comcast cable recently moved Turner Classic Movies from free to a for-fee SPORTS package!! I hate them so much!!

I like Black & White TV. Somewhere along the line the colour sapped a lot of the acting out of shows that started as B&W and hung on until colour became standard.

On his Canadian TV show, Rick Mercer asked some kids, “What would you do if you turned on the TV and all the shows were in black and white?” One said, “I’d call the police!”

Back in my time, I like black and white TV, especially the test patterns.

Years ago when my eldest daughter was a tween I suggested that we watch a Laurel and Hardy movie “The Flying Deuces”. She protested because it was B&W and couldn’t be any good. I insisted. She ended up, literally, rolling on the floor laughing.

What do you mean, “Oh no!”, Ruthie? A lot of the better programs and movies were in black and white!

Grandpa is going to get in trouble for using such colorful language around the kids.

I learned to live with b/w TV growing up. The day we got our first color set, the evening news showed color footage of a Project Gemini space walk. Instant justification.

Remember when motels would advertise color TV, A/C, and a swimming pool? Such a thrill on family road trips in the ’60’s.

During the few years that I had an HF ham station in my basement there was an electrical storm that destroyed the tree which supported the far end of the antenna. When I dropped in to the local ham radio store its owner commented that “the happiest guys I ever see in here are the ones who come in to buy a new lightning arrester.”

Black and white, when actors had to actually act.

Some of my favorite movies are in B/W: Arsenic and Old Lace, Thin Man series, Groucho Marx movies, Young Frankenstein; etc, etc.
