That’s one lesson everyone needs to be taught. Remember, trains can’t stop on a dime.

I was walking along an industrial area of Seattle. I passed a party that seemed to be attended by longshoremen and their bosses, before just missing being blocked by a train. It was switching in and out of tracks, building up a long train, and would spend much time holding still. From the party emerged a well dressed couple, probably management. Without hesitation they climbed one of the cars and went through to the other side. I might have done the same but there was a pedestrian on the other side patiently waiting, and I didn’t want to put pressure on him to break the rules. I finally gave up and walked towards town rather than wait anymore.
