“Covering The Bases "“Clandestine Nation Unknown”“Fly By Night”“The Secret Word”“The Mayflower Compact”""Under The Cover Of Daylight"“What Is Going On”or“Willis Was Here”
Brdshtt: What a cute little boy!!! Your wife is really pretty in this picture! I bet she is even lovelier now…aging gracefully is a silver lining on a golden personality! Still haven’t taken a pic or two of my Katie…all this running around…Yuck!!! ;)
For Bernice, it’s probably more ‘Who I could relate to (at least a little)"…. – For Knute, it’s the first time he had more in his vocabulary than anyone else… he could come up with two words!…
either Gunther rearranged what Rosa asked and understood “did they say what to you?” OR all of them said a LOOOOONNNGGGGGG “whaaaaaat” that sounded like yeah
the biggest Question is………………. is Quill the chauffeur of them, or is Mrs. Berger on the front passenger side? going by strip of a few days ago, he is the chaffeur
How could none of them possibly have known he was leaving? They are reacting like this is the first they’ve heard. This arc is getting more unbelievable all the time. I still think he’s going to bail.
Ahhh…I have a very beautiful IS girl sound asleep by my side…guess I’d best join her as we get ready to go upstairs for a good night’s rest (that is, if I don’t have too many weird dreams, LOL!). ’Nite all!!! ;)-———————————————————————————“She was an Amazon. Her whole life was spent riding at breakneck speed along the wilder shores of love.”(Lesley Blanch, 1907-?)
“Rod Serling will be waiting for them at the airport gate.”
Perfect! Actually, this is the most unbelievable part of this arc, that the gang doesn’t know he’s leaving. From what I’ve seen of kids this age, they are constantly on the phone talking or texting. It would have been more believable to have them waiting at the airport to see him off.
“…Quill! might even take a longer route…” ^And part of the problem is the one stop they made, which led to several “other” stops along the 8 miles. “Big Gulps” don’t drink themselves….
Y’know something? I was just thinking… Streets in the metro Detroit area are named after the miles. Must’ve been when they made a left turn at Albuquerque, . Or this is part of Quill!s plans……..Just so long as Quill! doesn’t start calling himself “the real Slim Shady” and starts rapping….
Ohh! Good volley, Gunther! Your wordplay-response to Rosa is as good as the humor she directed at you yesterday. Now it’s her turn to catch on: “what” is the word!Betimes, we must be nearing the airport; soon, the flight to Peru will become an irreversible choice (i.e., once you’re on board the plane and the door is shut).
they knew that Rosa had a plan C, but not the specifics, Rosa told only Gunther at first, than Gunther told Quill, Mrs Berger overhead them, I guess Mrs Berger talked to Rosa and her parents, all of it went fast, none of them told anyone else
He didn’t have the time to tell everyone? So just who did he tell? Apparently he had already told Tiffany, Delta, and Crystal. Oh, and of course his good buddy Leslie Knox!
No, but I meant he probably drove cross country to Detroit, and then realized his mistake, made a “u-ie” and then drove back, while they were busy talking in the back…
Gunther has had upwards of 2 weeks to prepare for this trip, but he never thought to tell his close friends that he is leaving the country, maybe for several years. Also, he didn’t think to ask Rosa how her parents felt about her leaving. Does this maybe show why so many people here think Gunther has… problems?
“I thought “mum” was the word? You mean I’ve been wrong all these years? LOL” ^Ha ha, Yeah, you missed the memo that mum was out starting in 1977. They eschewed that one in favor of one that would encapsulate “the way we are feeling…♫”…
There won’t be any parking available when they get to the airport. Quill will have to make a shortstop at the curb and pop the trunk. Rosa and Gunther will quickly grab their luggage, close the trunk and wave goodbye as Quill drives away with a bumper sticker on the back bumper stating “DARN!”
Gunther had at least ten days to tell everyone goodbye because he decided to go with Rosa within two days of when she told him she was going with plan c!
I don’t get this strip’s story line at all. If these KIDS are giving up Ivy League to go to Peru, why? And how long is the commitment? And, indeed, why are the parents and friends not there to see them off? Your choices for high school grads leaves a lot to be desired. Is the girl from a rich and prominent family in Peru? What kind of living conditions are they heading into? It makes a difference no matter where they are headed.
If your measure of whether someone is liked or not is whether or not they get a going away party, then most of the people in the real world, as well as most characters in ‘Luann’ , are not well liked.
Lots of flights are almost fully booked up a couple of weeks in advance. The fact that he had to scramble for a seat certainly doesn’t mean that he decided to go only 2 days ago.
My guess is Quill worked illegally and was paid under the table…because T.J. is a shady character. The drama job could be an unpaid internship. At least, this is how you could explain it in the realm of logic.
I would wonder if TJ actually had enough profit from the truck to pay Quill anything? I’d figure supplies, fuel costs, maintenance on the truck, insurance, etc. would add up…
Well, Greg Evans certainly doesn’t waste any time in writing characters out of the strip. (Quill: “Luann, my Dad just called. We’re going back to Australia. This afternoon.”)
This is like the movie, Argo, just hold your breath until they’re actually in the plane and off the ground, and clear of any “ground fire”. (I don’t mean actual bullets, just some kind of malfunction).
You think Rosa and Gunther don’t have visas? Maybe they do and maybe they don’t, but almost certainly they don’t have work permits, so it will be interesting to see where their money will come from.
And Gunther most certainly couldn’t get a work permit in 2 weeks (and what would he use as justification to apply for him – his “special skill” at sewing?). So will Gunther just hang around, or do chores around the clinic for free (burning up his single-Mom’s oh-so-copious savings)? This whole “plan” was not well thought out.
Re: “They (L & Q) used to Skype everyday but now that he’s here they don’t talk at all.”Maybe Gunther asked Quill not to say anything about him going to Peru with Rosa? Perhaps, also, because he wasn’t sure if he would actually board the plane? Not sure why Gunther didn’t tell his FRIENDS…just not like him at all… ;)
Jump ahead 12 or 24 months!*The G-Man returns to Pittsville. Suave, self-possessed, confident, with that “je ne sais quoi” obtained through international living.*Luann and every other girl is going to want him. But noooo….
“Knute says, “Whoa! What?!” which really means, “What?! Whoa!””*HtD – I like your interpretations, but I think Knute’s response is better interpreted as, “Whoa, how did plain ol’ Gunther get to be wilder than ME!?”
Rosa is not a Peruvian citizen, and by working for her uncle (in exchange for room and board), she will be depriving Peruvians of employment, which is illegal. Even if her uncle has no money to pay actual employees, there are plenty of homeless people in Peru who would be happy to help out at the clinic in exchange for the room and board arrangement
Do you?>From the “Visa Requirements & Regulations for Peru” page of the “”http://www.limaeasy.com/peru-info/peruvian-visa#volunteer-visa-peru>LiaEasy" Web site:-Volunteer VisaPeru has no special visa for volunteers. Travelers planning to volunteer in Peru enter the country on a tourist visa and are allowed to volunteer (without payment) at a charitable organization or institution for a maximum of 183 days.-So after 6 months, she will have to stop volunteer work. Of course, she may not be allowed to do even that, if the immigration authorities decide that work performed for room and board isn’t purely “volunteer” work. Furthermore, we don’t know that Rosa’s uncle’s clinic is in fact a “charitable organization” rather than an paid medical facility.
Six hours will be enough for Gunther. He will be taking the next plane home, as soon as it’s bedtime and no one has prepared him a plate of cookies and milk.
