Pat Oliphant for April 07, 2014
Transcript:
First it was dog and cat portraits, then it was nude self-portraits. Then it was other leaders he has met. Now, he's graduating again to the nude. But, Ye gods..! Nancy Pelsoi?! Call my agent. For art, a new paradigm. George W. Bush, Cowboy artist, in the studio.

I groaned at first glance—Oliphant who is a gifted artist taking a cheap shot at Bush who obviously is an ordinary one. But this as a whole is hilarious. I do think Pelosi would be a more fit subject for Francis Bacon or Lucien Freud, neither of whom are still with us. Good job.

I hope this means that Oliphant is back from his vacation, sabbatical, illness, or whatever it was. Life just isn’t the same without new Oliphant cartoons.

I’ve long thought Reagan checked out early. But that means that Hilary, should the dear woman make it (ahem…), will be our second, or maybe third woman president after Nancy and quite possibly Eleanor.

Oliphant has a thing for showing politicians in the nude. I think his last was Angela Merkel, in the zaftig style of Renoir. Thankfully, he does not here show Pelosi, who seems rather anorexic to me. Maybe the wrinkled curtain is representative. Sorry. I had resolved to give up sarcasm for Lent. Pat, see what you made me do?!

Actually, for someone picking up painting late in life, I thought W’s work was surprisingly good. And he’s been a quite dignified and humble figure as ex-president. Now a nude portrait of Pelosi… shudder

If that’s really Nacy Pelosi posing she has some really ugly feet!

Wish Bush had taken up painting YEARS ago…as in before he ran for President. It is only because his pals erected a library w/ GWB’s name on it that those amateurish paintings are seeing the light of day. What a waste of paint, canvas, & wall space.

Oliphant is one of the greatest ever in his field, but give him a break, he’s 78-79 years old (born 1935)

W’s paintings would be a lot more popular if he was cranking them out from prison.
