So if I’m reading this right, Miles Mycroft was the originator of the scam. Mary did say that he had been arrested before in that dialogue that people here were claiming was just a re-hash.

If the late unlamented hyena chow, Miles Mycroft, was the instigator of this scam, and if the Nitrates paid him some advance, plus rented or leased the Lyric as a base for the scam and lair for Lena, they really do need to score a big payoff to be able to skip town in comfort.
