Hi Jan, I’ve just been reading all the comments on yesterday’s strip. I can’t help thinking that the “You Gotta Love August” strips are a good way for you to enjoy a summer break without having to create a new story line each week. You certainly deserve a summer break just as much as everybody else. I noticed this morning that the Hi and Lois comic also has an August theme. Here in South Africa we are looking forward to the end of winter and some long summer days again. Have a great August Jan, wherever you live.
Hope Biscuits’ nails don’t puncture her tube. I see Alix is exploring the ‘undersea’ life and as expressed by some of by fellow commenters—Hey, Phil, welcome back !!!
You gotta hate these august strips…only serves to remind me that the bitter, horrible cold of winter will soon be back. So I’m signing off from this strip until september…see y’all!
Love these August strips, I am telling you, in Texas August is our 5th season, it has been over 100 every day since Aug 1st and actually before that, I think we are on day 8 in a row of 100 or over and not expecting anything less than that for at least another week and then only 98 with high humidity.
After age nine, I grew up in Florida with no A/C except in movie theaters and a few stores. We really looked forward to winter, though on one Christmas day, the thermom crept up to 90. When winter finally hit, sometimes it would overdo a bit, with temps in the 30’s. (Humid, windy 30’s in Florida were something else.)
Is it August already? In Baltimore, it has been cool all month. At the moment it is 68-F and rainy. Rain all week, with temps maybe going into the 80s. Sauna time.
We claim Jan Eliot here in Oregon. And yes, August is one of the 2 dry months we get here. And its the warmest. I can imagine her at Diamond lake or maybe the reservoir outside of Eugene, where I believe she is from.
Yeah, nice ot see Phil! Yeah, I love August, and the humidity and the heat and all of it. Only currently in PA it isn’t that warm or that humid. Sigh! Summer goes by WAY TOO FAST! I *HATE WINTER
Find me one of those tubes…here I come! I’ve come down small hills on one in the winter, but never one on a river in the summer…looks cool amid all of the heat!!! (don’t forget Phoenix, however, where it is 100+ from May-June through September…and sometimes longer). :P
To everyone who complains: did you not learn that if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all. So most of us don’t get the month of August off and have to take our vacation days one day at a time to tend to chores at home. That’s no reason to grouse about a cartoon family enjoying a day on the lake. I commented yesterday that where I live August is hot and humid, but I don’t mean that as criticism to this cartoon strip. I love this theme.

In Puerto Rico, August is back to school time. So, the month we really love is July.

I was always looking into the water too. I liked seeing the fish, frogs, turtles, mudpuppies etc….

Here in Texas, we like August, but that’s just because it means that we only have three months of Summer left.

Tubing down the river is one of the funnest things I’ve ever done. Everyone should try it.
