    Good morning all…

The Asp and Punjab are here. Can Oliver Warbucks be far behind?

It may seem funny that Diet Smith wouldn’t have had Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks’ number, but they may have been competitors in the past.

Oh boy! Oh boy! Here comes Daddy! My only complaint (and I’m willing to suppress it) is that these aren’t the “classic” versions of the Asp and Punjab that I would have preferred to these modernized interpretations…. For Harold Gray’s Punjab and Asp (and also the acceptable Leonard Starr version), see the strips included with this essay.

It’s difficult for an artistic ego to settle for drawing in the style of the creator as close as possible. We’re getting impressions, not mimicry.

So good to see Punjab and Asp alive and well. Seems that explosions that appear to kill don’t always do so. Here’s to the magic of comics.

Leapin’ Lizards!Tracy knows Daddy Warbucks! And The Asp! Now there’s a story I’d like to read – the untold tale that brought them together! Maybe how Tracy helped rescue Annie from Guatamala? Or how he saved her from endless reprints? What’s that, Sandy?ARF!

If I remember correctly, Asp and Punjab were lost at sea and never seen again before the end of the Annie strip. Perhaps they were found and rescued?

Right Willy? How awesome would a reboot be. However, let’s hope TMS has enough sense to pull together a team as equally skilled and qualified as Joe, Mike and et al is for the Dick Tracy strip.

I know modern times, like the internet has played a huge part in the downfall of some of these great American iconic comics, but I truly believe most of the artists and writers themselves are to blame by churning out mediocre at best and down right unreadable pablum at worst.

Staton and Curtis prove these strips are still vital and can be presented in a fun and compelling manner.

The properties aren’t just nostalgic they’re fantastic creations that capture our imagination even even in a time of $350 million dollar movies. That’s why we love them so. That puts a lot of weight on the shoulder’s of the guardians.

That’s just my slant on things. Some of you may agree and others may not. But we can all agree THIS iteration of the Dick Tracy strip is freakin’ wonderful!

You guys are thinking this is just a crossover, so Diet and Tracy can check on Sail’s credibility. Ha! Little do you know that it’s much bigger than that. Tracy’s about to stumble on the answer to TWO great mysteries — Who is Mysta and Where is Annie. How? Scroll down for the answer — but only if you don’t wanna be spoiled ;) …..^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Mysta is Annie, surgically altered!Yowsah!

i have two HUGE problems with today’s strip.

    1) When did The Asp ebcome a vampire?!?! In all the time i had read annie in the strips printed in the New York Daily News, Asp was NEVER from either transylvania or atlantis.. so what’s with the freakin’ POINTY EARS?

he was always a mysterious asian fellow who was about three THOUSAND times deadlier than a ninja.. but in today’s strip he DEFINITELY looks like a vampire.

    2) when did punjab become caucasian?!?!
