Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for October 03, 2021
Transcript:
Cathy: Mom, I...I... Mom: Whatever it is, sweetie, dad and I are here for you! Unless we're too suffocating! Then we'll stand over there! Or dad could stand HERE and I could stand THERE! Or we could hop around trading places! Or... ...What am I saying?? You don't need us to fix anything! You're an incredible woman from an incredible time for women! Your generation opened doors, demanded chances, raised expectations, transformed society, and exceeded the dreams of every generation before you! You HAVE to know anything's possible! Cathy: I DO know anything's possible, mom. There's going to be another girl in the world. Mom: I'm going to be a GRANDMA?!! Dad: Buckle up, son. Irving: Want to see the ultrasound on my iPhone?

Can you imagine those two as parents! It would’ve been so entertaining to see.

And that’s the end of the strip. I wonder how far back in time we’ll go on Monday when the classic strips start over again?

Mom forgot to say, “You’re too old to have a baby!”

So, her daughter would be 11 years old now. I’ll bet she looks just like Cathy did at 11, and Grandma and Grandpa are living the good life all over again.

From the “aack” I’m thinking the kid already has the right idea.

Well, it appears the summer vacation was a success. Now the journey really begins.

Eleven years ago. Now the title character has at least one child, 11 years old.

My mother’s reaction when my brother told her my sister-in-law was pregnant. Mom had been waiting a LONG time, since my brother is the baby and none of the rest of us have kids.

What a sweet ending! Hopefully the sixth panel (last one on the second row) is a sign that things changed in the relationship between Cathy and her mom, and her mom became less of a cosseting helicopter parent to allow Cathy to be her own person (probably not, haha). I hope this comic was a fantastic journey for Cathy Guisewite, and as fun for her to do as it was for us readers to read. It was nice that the ending not only gave us a sense of completion, but also left a lot unanswered and open to our interpretation.
I hope this is not the end of the Cathy reruns. Hopefully they will go back even further to when she was single. Either way, I’ve enjoyed the people who I’ve “talked” to in the comments over the years, especially the ones who have been there since we first became the Cathy clan. A final hug, aack and an eye roll to my friends here!

Thank you, Cathy G for the best comic strip of my life. Thank you, gocomics, for letting me read it up to the ending since the local paper stopped it years ago.Thank you as well to Anne G, Cathy’s mom in real life: your daughter is a genius and I’m sure you had a hand in that – and I loved the book you did with her, that little book helped me so much growing up! (Also a late happy 99th birthday – as it was in or before spring 2021 and we were all still hiding under the sheets).

I checked in at the other Cathy Commiserations that ended on Mother’s Day. Some of our more recent comments there speculating where CG has gone and left us with no word, have been pulled from the comment section. : (

Has it really been over ten/eleven years since the strip ended in 2010? Hard to believe.
I, too, am really curious to see how the comic would’ve moved forward, now that Cathy and Irving are expecting. That story opens up a whole ’nother can of worms …
Thank you, Ms. Guisewite, for all the laughs, [eye-rolls], and giggles over the years. The “Cathy” comic is fantastic. I look forward to restarting the series soon … hopefully tomorrow.
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, “Cathy” Clan.

The end of a great strip, but good grief, a new baby would probably end up being an exact Cathy clone!

I’ve always wished she’d continued the strip, although I understand why she didn’t and I’m glad it didn’t become a legacy strip.

My favorite Cathy was the “came back from vacation” strip.

Poor little girl. With a couple of whack-a-doodles like Cathy and her mother as the two biggest female influences in her life, that child doesn’t stand a chance at being raised anymore normally than Cathy was! :-/
But having said that, though, it was still a very sweet way for Cathy Guisewite to end her beloved comic strip. ♥

Hi, rgcviper! :-)
.
Hello and Happy Sunday, fellow Cathy fans. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I hope to be able to “see” you all here again tomorrow! :-)

For some reason that seemed like a really short run (or is that time speeding up again). Sure glad we got to go through at least the last 12 years again – especially since I met a lot of really great people here.
Hopefully I will ‘see’ you all again tomorrow!

We did get a little peek at Cathy’s baby when RBG died. She put up a “Commiserations” panel with Cathy and little girl. I too appreciate that we have been able to continue reading the strip and hope it starts up again. Wouldn’t want to lose all the friends we have here.

In the original run of this, I was so disappointed that CG had to make Cathy a mom, but I guess given the ongoing mom/daughter relationship, it was inevitable. But I would have liked for Cathy to remain single – or at least childless. Not every woman wants to have children.
