Learned to read with my brothers' comic books. Often got chased out of the house by my mom on pretty summer days, but I showed her.... I took my comic books to read outside, usually in a tree somewhere. Today, I have a subscription to a real, 7-days-a-week, locally owned newspaper and the comics page is the first thing I read every morning.

Really? You would expect a college sophomore, working to help pay for school and home just for just a few weeks in the summer, to kick in for groceries? Maybe if the family was struggling, but that’s not the case here.

I don’t see any anger. Her expression in last panel looks more curious to me.

Had to look that up to remind myself of what it said, even though I had the poster in college. I guess the main message is to be kind to yourself and others and accept that the universe is unfolding just as it’s supposed to. Today, I wouldn’t like the reference to God and “his” plan, but other than that, I think it’s still relevant.

Yes, that treatment was shameful. But as you pointed out, many (most?) of the servicemen were drafted. They had no choice but to “do their duty” once they got there. Some were true heroes of the sort Gracie mentions here, and some were or became career soldiers, but others just did what they had to do to try to survive to get home in one piece. In WWII, my dad joined the Navy (to avoid getting drafted into the Army), and he served honorably, but he never considered himself a hero.

You should have done more than just feed Fluffy. You should have caught her, got her all the necessary shots and had her spayed. I hope you are responsible and take take good care of the new kitten.

Is the farm on a body of water? A creek, pond, inlet, bay? Can’t recall that being said. Alligators live in water and don’t usually venture too far away. And if alligators were close by there, the chickens the kid used to raise wouldn’t stand a chance.

Where in the world did you get that? She’s never shown any interest in that guy.
