I’ve often wondered where Magritte found time to study General Semantics.

So bad that you think a bot might have done it.

BECAUSE, Jennifer.

I know “It’s not a pipe, it’s an image of a pipe” is the common explanation and almost certainly correct, but it just seems…pedestrian (almost pedantic).

Magritte is classed as a Surrealist, and it seems to me more surreal to say “This is not a pipe” because it IS in fact a pipe. Artistic freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two does not make four; if that is granted, all else follows.

The artist is just a troll – it’s typical of “modern” “artists”.

Is it the image of a “plumbing pipe” or a “smoking pipe”?

I always thought that it was a map is not the territory thing. I didn’t realize it had a title.
