I do NOT miss bedtime fights. Now the kids have to do that with THEIR kids.
Its fine to fight aliens but make sure where Mom is and dont let her corner you.
“Pl’ Battleship”??? Boy, Calvin is in REAL trouble!!!!!
I view many of the comics each morning, but I always save Calvin for the last. As it is the best comic ever devised for true laughter, and that is how I like to begin my day!!
Battleship? More like Deathstar, now, Calvin.
I’ve never understood the complaints of parents who say their kids won’t go to bed. When I was growing up, we did as we were told. Granted, we might not go right to sleep, but we darned sure went to bed,
At least he said battleship, not battle-axe.
Stupendous Man and Spaceman Spiff all in the same week. I sure don’t envy Calvin’s parents.
@Robert LandersHave you checked out http://www.gocomics.com/pearlsbeforeswine/2013/03/10? I start with Calvin and end with Pearls.
ha ha chase calvin all night…
I love the Spaceman Spiff adventures. The spaceship designs take me back to 1950s and 60s science fiction stories.
are straight jackets cruel and abusive and legal?
It helps if you’re prepared and know what you’re getting into, if you’re mature enough to realize that chidren change your life forever and that their needs come first and it requires lots of money and time to be a parent. Your childhood should be over when you decide to have your own. Otherwise it might be a good idea to choose to remain childless. Our children looked forward to bedtime because it was book time and we’d pick books we enjoyed and read them and it was peaceful. My first was born when I was 34 so I’d enjoyed all the pleasures of being both single and married-but-responsibility-free and didn’t resent having to provide for their needs.
Only Stupendous Man can save Spaceman Spiff…..
So many of those planets look like Arizona.
Not to bust anybody’s bubble, I set the rules for bedtime when my oldest entered kindergarten. I’ve adjusted it over the years to reflect their maturity. No issues when it’s time to go to bed!
In that case… You WILL have to chase him around all night, Mum.
Better have some coffee…
It’s the comics like these that really showed off Watterson’s creativity and artistic chops.
…HA HA HA that’s hilarious! Did she laugh about it years later?
Careful Calvin! The hostile aliens may resort to water torture (baths).
His delusional episodes are more frequent now. Not a good sign.
I can see why he is an only child.
Chugga Wukka! (Alien talk)
She was a very hard mother, as long as I lived with her as child!
Very nice, thank you!
I love the alien in the first panel that says “Spiff chug wunka!”:D
Miss Wingworm goes home at night minus Calvin. Calvin’s parents get him during the night she gets him during the day.I was very much like Calvin at that age. No wmy children are like me. What comes round goes round.
There’s a difference between physical discipline and abuse. If you truly love your child, you will figure out what training methods work. What works for one will not work for all.My parents used corporal discipline with all their children. I didn’t like it at the time, but they made sure I knew they were applying discipline because they loved me, not because they were mad at me.
Run, Spiff, Run!
I went to bed, but they payed for it — I was up asking for something every 5 minutes and it went on for hours. They deserved it — putting a kid to bed at 7:00 PM was/is ridiculous.
Hostile aliens are nothing compared to hostile moms.
