A windigo is a supernatural being belonging to the spiritual traditions of Algonquian-speaking First Nations in North America. Windigos are described as powerful monsters that have a desire to kill and eat their victims. In most legends, humans transform into windigos because of their greed or weakness. Various Indigenous traditions consider windigos dangerous because of their thirst for blood and their ability to infect otherwise healthy people or communities with evil. Windigo legends are essentially cautionary tales about isolation and selfishness, and the importance of community.
You can tell it’s an illegal zoo, because it doesn’t have the requisite notice from the British Emergency Door Release Council that you shouldn’t tit about with emergency door releases.
(Though, really, that probably would have just made Lottie want to push the button even more, so the end result would have been the same.)
Why do people install these buttons anyway? Why would they ever want to, especially when the idea is to keep them from escaping? And the good guys keep using them to mess up the plans of the owners of such “collections” anyway?
When this adventure was first posted on GoComics I pitched a hissy fit because that’s not what a wendigo is. I’ve already done that, though – no need to do it again. This time I think I’ll just pretend Allison called it something else. There’s nothing wrong with the concept, as long as it isn’t called a wendigo.

Someone required prison doors to unlatch when the smoke detectors went off. That feature was disabled within the first hour of operation.

This reminds me of a far side cartoon.
A bunch of military personnel are standing in a room filled with electronic equipment.
On one wall is this large, red, candy colored button with a sign that days, “Launch All Missiles.”
There is a circus clown standing in front of the button, with his arm outstretched and his finger almost touching the button.
On the other side of the room there is a general pointing to him and saying, “Hey! What’s that clown thing he’s doing?”
