It’s still safe to eat as long as it was never defrosted before being re-frozen. The issue with “old meat” in the freezer is that it loses flavor over time so it just tastes yucky after many years in the freezer but it won’t kill ya. Like the poster above me said, people have been known to eat meat that froze thousands of years ago! There was even a dinner party where they served 50,000 year old bison meat. I don’t waste anything that has been put in the freezer. I have one that needs manual defrosting, so every 6 months or so, I defrost it and see what all is in there. If I see anything that has been missed for some time, I will work it into the menu as soon as possible. Nothing ever goes beyond 1-1/2 years. It all gets eaten.
Food Saver – vacuum packed 60 lbs of fresh salmon and put in chest freezer – enjoyed for 6 years – need to restock this coming spring… Also use for fresh asparagus – a quick blanch and freeze – good to have in the deep winter…
I just threw out a bag of husband’s favorite pretzels that he buys when we go on trips out of state to where they are made. He loves them so. Unopened bag – good through August 2016
He is like a child. He finds some food item that he likes and then buys a lot of it. Then decides there is a problem with it or holds it to eat on a special ocassions and then I end up dumping it all as I never notice the date until it is too late to donate it somewhere.

He got it out of the refrigerator, not the freezer. He must have thawed it and put it in the refrig.
