   Actually, the word in Greek which has been translated “Inn,” is “Kataluma.” That word is also used when speaking of where Jesus and the disciples celebrated the Last Supper, in the “Upper Room,” the “Kataluma.” It literally means “a Guest Room,” and it could be an addition to the side of the house or a second-floor room. So, it means, there was no guest room available! Jesus was probably born in the home of a long-lost-relative, and then Jesus and his family were given the warmest part of the house, down by the animals. So, there was no nasty old Inn Keeper!

   The word which has been translated “INN”, in Luke 2:7 is the Greek word “Kataluma.” That is not the same word Luke uses in 10:34 when the good Samaritan takes the injured man to an Inn. The word “Kataluma” is not used there, but rather the Greek word “pandocheion.” This shows that Luke knew his words and chose intentionally the word “Kataluma” for where Jesus was born. But Luke does use the word “Kataluma” one more time. When Jesus and his disciples gather for their last meal together, they gather in the “Kataluma” which in Luke 22:12 is translated “Guest Room,” in the ESV. We need to get it straight. There was no room in the Guest Room. There was no Inn and no Inn Keeper, and no Inn Keeper’s wife.

   According to http://guns.periscopic.com/?year=2013, there were 11,394 deaths due to guns in the USA in 2013. That is too many, but one should not exaggerate! I wonder how many happen in the top four cities for gun crime, such as Chicago and Washington DC? Where guns are the most restricted, there are the most deaths due to gun violence.

    I think the key to this comic strip is the book on the bed, “Child’s Bible Stories.” According to the Bible we are rescued by Jesus Christ from the destruction we would suffer without him. From a faith perspective, this is very powerful. “I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see.”
