/// Fourteen-fifties— the time was now ripe

    for his mass-produced movable type.

    Printed pages unfurled

and they changed the whole world.

It seems Gutenberg’s worth all the hype.

Ah, yes, the printing press. Like the still camera, the movie camera, the VCR, and the home computer, out of the fiscal reach of almost all, and on shaky ground – until people figured out you could use it for porn, which raised demand enough to bring the price down enough to insure its survival.

The invention of the printing press

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Paintings in the Museum Plantin-Moretus" site=commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ecosia and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Seghers, and click its link for info and links that point to more info (perhaps best viewed using Google Chrome, which can automatically translate most webpages if necessary) about this painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3154 (June 26, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to the sparse info I found about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 2 works by him have been used here, the March 24, 2014, strip being the prior. GoComics has deactivated the hyperlinks and removed the new lines in my comment and reply there; but, perhaps the text remains informative.
