Sharon, I just did the same thing and ended up adding this to my collection. Fave: Uncle Sam deciding to get drunk…

added too. Not like I am “tired of the stuffy museums”… – au contaraire, I LOVE museums and old art and all that, which only makes it more fun to look at the new captions. You don’t have to put down people who like museums and art in your blurb, Steve is all I’m sayin’

Just discovered, and added with anticipation. BTW count me among those who also have enjoyed the museums, at least in small doses.

My first viewing but definitely not my last. So clever…and enlightening. I didn’t realize that artists painted so many naked women..and a few men. I love the sugar cone one.

Click-to-enlarge image available from here or Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.

Neptune and Amphitrite (click links for their Wikipedia pages), isn’t, as far as I know, described online by its current-location. A description, and different coloration, click-to-enlarge image, can be found at its Google Art Project page (click the Details on the left above the image), and also here, along with its different coloration, click-to-enlarge image, and 2 detail image descriptions, with click-to-enlarge images, here and here. Another different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here. The artist‘s Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).

First of the 2 works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (link above), for reasons unknown, has been been moved to here. The first comment date there better indicates when it was published.
