What wrong with using a versatile icon? Yes, Ok, I’m with you, etc., all mean the same thing. So instead of a “thumbs up” Luann should say " ’K" all the time?

ancient romans didn’t use the thumbs up. when they wanted a gladiator killed, it was the sword-thrust motion that mattered rather than its direction, which could be up or down or sideways. the signal to spare him was a closed fist, representing a sheathed sword.

To think these two used to be =good= friends.

Bernice just answered Luann with the thumbs up emoji.

I love when insulting others, Bernice ends up insulting herself. This shows how much she’s actually projecting her insults and that, on a subconscious level, Miss perfection is a bit aware of all of her flaws. At least it seems that Luann understands the situation and secretly laughs about it.

Geeze Bernice, Girl definitely needs to get laid.

Text messaging isn’t about creativity. It’s about quick communication.

I am with Bern here, this is representative of modern communication – and not just among youth. I get a large amount of “just an emoji” texts from all ages. An easy way to acknowledge a message without having to really be engaged. And us older ones bemoan cursive falling by the wayside. :o/

I use mostly proper grammar and a few emojis in my texts. I’ll use the thumbs up when I’m done talking and want to end the texting. It works very well. My friends use it that way too.

This is kind of funny though—-especially Berniece breaking her own “rule” on emojis.

But why would you text Bernice?

Even on a Sunday, Bernice is a b!+@# to a person supposed to be her best friend.

I tend to agree with Bern on over use of emojis at the expense of just writing what you have to say. I use them but very infrequently mostly to convey disappointment or to congratulate someone. There is one person (at work) that I need to communicate with whose messages are constantly sprinkled with hearts and smiley faces, but in addition to writing what’s necessary. so it’s OK.

Is there a support group called Friends Not Friends Anonymous? Luann needs a gift membership.

I would use the adjective ‘dismissive’. When someone replies to my carefully worded message or reply to their message with (Y) – thumbs up, I feel dismissed, like they can’t be bothered to read or think of an appropriate reply. I know, it’s better than being ignored or forgotten.

Luann gives as good as she gets, in this arc better. Bernice needs a cheerful positive doofus bbf because she is so dour.

Bernice reminds me of my older sister who was snarky and judgy as a teen and young woman. After decades of therapy she realized the damage she had done and is now trying to make up for it. I’ve always adored her and wished she would try to understand rather than jump all over me at the first. It was worth the wait and decades of prayer.

Judging by the last panel, Bernice is also lazy, stupid, unimaginative, and relies on overused cop-outs.

Emjois are a sign that lazy minds are regressing us back to days of painting on cave walls.

As a person of (mostly) few words, I find emojis useful.

Spare us the emojis, girls! In fact, spare us the texting, period. Sheesh!

Bernice is a friend I would never want to have around let alone live with my family. So arrogant and rude, need to write her out of the comic like Delta was written out and never mentioned again.

I’m with Bernice on this one. It feels like a conversation ender/dodger, used when you’re feeling lazy or if you want to avoid someone.
