So…is there another newspaper in Endtown, and does it need a veteran reporter?

I totally agree with the editor’s position, if not the airborne aspect of his expression of it. I spent two decades as a radio newscaster and after a initial period of adjustment, I eventually understood that the first responsibility of any REAL journalist (print or electronic) is to give his/her audience an honest, balanced story with both sides represented fairly when possible. There’s a difference between “reporter” and “commentator,” but whatever line between the two roles once existed has been blurred, if not obilterated, in the modern American media.

I got out of the business in part because I was fed up with what it’s become. Edward R. Murrow must be spinning in his grave over what has become of a profession he gave a sense of honor to. I get my national news from foreign sources like NHK or Deutsche Welle now because I know from experience what the domestic media are doing and HOW they’re doing it.

Reporters are not supposed to editorialize, that turns it into an editorial not a report.

I feel like I’m missing something, or several somethings. Endtown is being polarized into mutually frightened factions. There’s news of a food shortage but no actual shortage of…beans; and eggs and milk. Foxworthy, serving as a pawn for both Jacked and unJacked factions, is getting ready frontpage the story as soon as his Cooper-contact gives the go-ahead(7.24.17). The two factions don’t have clear links to the Porcine kidnappings and terrorism or any horse play in the upcoming trial. Plenty of tension and engaging characters but no clear answers: Man this Neathery guy is a great storyyteller!

    “I’m a coyote, not a wolf!”

    “What’s the difference?”

“A coyote only threw you out of the office. A wolf would rather eat you!”

And nothing says “working in the public interest” than tackling down an upset woman who was crying her eyes out after leaving the hospital.

Speaking of which, I wonder how Jolene is adjusting to losing one of her eyes…

As someone who had worked in a newspaper for two decades, I think it’s safe to say that one of the first things you learn in reporting is choosing your words wisely

    But, what do I know?

I’m pretty sure Foxworthy is a fox, except he is drawn more like a wolf. But he was made before he needed to look different than a wolf, Neatherly changed his look one time recently to make him look more foxy.

    “…you self-hating ______________” (Fill in the blank)

I’ve encountered this phrase in discussions regarding race, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, etc. Its ony purpose is to shut down debate and is used by people who are unable to produce reasonable arguments to support their views.
