Isn’t that a bit like saying that the power of the people is passé when they hand that power over to an entrenched power elite who become the wealthy by power brokering even if they start out with nothing but good intentions and the trust of their constituents?

I see the political donation issue as the liberal version of the war on drugs. Liberals get all excited about it but the fact is all the regulations against it really weren’t working (for both sides). So, since liberals want to call off the war on drugs “because it’s not working” (my belief is they’re afraid to get caught) I thing we’ve got it right on political contributions.

I can never remember, is it politics I hate, or politicians?

Well thats how Gov. works herein the US……Its works better in some other countries which remove much of the money from campaigning by banning TV adverts.. In those place donations are called by their real name…Bribes.

I think the cartoonist’s point is this is universal phenomenon. However, noting Karl Rove’s example, Republiclans have it down to a fine art.

It is the extremely conservative Libertarians that see it is not working (along with most other policies of the left and the right.)They are 2 sides of the same coin, one that comes from your pocket. We give out billions to most of the countries in the world, and then send troops (that cost even more) to do the bidding of multinational corporations that do not hire in the US or even pay taxes here. The 2 parties are busy fighting each other over agendas that will never get settled(truth be known, they just want more control of the citizens so that the real money from the corporations might find a way into their coffers).

It’s rather interesting that there is absolutely no interest in whatever Danae is promoting. Only interest in the amount of her donation. That is unnerving.It would be refreshing if before taking a bribe the Senator would at least agree with the lobby.“Pick your position on anything and, if your $$$contribution is large enough, I’m for it.

People enter public service, military, police, search and rescue, fire fighting, protecting public lands and resources to do what they can FOR people. Polliticians are out for what they can do TO people.

I think someone outside the political system would have a difficult time differentiating between a campaign contribution and a bribe.
