Time to forget about word play for awhile, they are becoming much to obvious in the first panel and too labored.

I once heard about an architect that had a neurosis that caused him to design very complicated multiple apartment building projects. He was diagnosed with having a complex complex complex.

I haven’t been reading PBS long enough. I was into the second panel before I ducked for cover from the oncoming pun/lameness.

That’s why Monday’s strip was so breathtaking. Pastis delivered one without the obvious buildup.

I’m trying to find a way to say, “Don’t let your last asp lapse” and make if humorous, but it’s just not working. It’s still hard to say, though, and if I’m any good at this, you’ll be saying “last asp lapse” to yourself all day. My work here is done.

I don’t care if Rat thinks the joke is lame, I never agree with his opinions anyway. When I read the first panel of a strip like this I know we’re going to be rewarded with a play on words or a silly tongue twister. Keep up the good work, Stephan!

“Breaking the fourth wall is fun and all, but Pastis is overdoing it.”-I’m not sure that this is actually a case of “breaking the fourth wall”. That concept came from the theatre, where the “fourth wall” is an imaginary wall between actors and audience. When an actor addresses the audience directly, he has broken the fourth wall. -In the Pearls Before Swine" universe, the Creator (Pastis) — or at least his Avatar (look up the meaning of that word in Hinduism) walks amongst his creations (the other characters). The “wall” between the PBS universe, and our own remains intact. -Regardless, I don’t think it’s overdone.

IIRR, Carry on Cleopatra was the one in which Julius Caesar (Kenneth Williams), while being stabbed, gave the deathless line:

“Infamy! Infamy! They’ve all got it in for me!”

I’m sure Pastis would like that one.
