It’s not all the fault of the pucks. Those guys are predisposed to fighting. Going to a hockey game is kind of like going to a Nascar race. It’s all about the violence and mayhem.

@Linda Dean-Well don’t retire just no-telling when that yahoo’ll sent the next transmission. Must be a luny Calendar there. BTW hear part of Colly is gonna succeed won’t effect Qwee-dough tho just MountainCounties. No flat line landers affected.

I read that it is the northern plain counties that are uproarious about that breakaway stuff. When is Kebbec going to become its own country ?

O.K. Baking isn’t my forte but I have made Victoria sponge cake using Nigella Lawson’s recipe. It came out light and fluffy, the way it should. My grandmother use make small ones and fill them with fresh fruit or custard and top with real whipped cream. Anyway, other than Florrie, it’s a no fail, easy recipe:Victoria Sponge Cake by Nigella Lawson

Ingredients: 225g caster sugar 225g soft margarine (at room temperature) (or the same amount of soft butter) 4 eggs (at room temperature) 200g SR flour 25g cornflour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons milk (at room temperature)

Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C or 350°F or gas mark 4.

    2. Put ALL the ingredients in a food processor and pulse for a few seconds until everything is mixed.3. Split the batter between 2 greased 8 inch round tins, and bake for 25 minutes.

AnnouncementI have been trying for months (with little success) to go into semi-retirement. I am like a plate spinner who is spending too much time spinning one certain plate as others are starting to fall and break.>That being said, I have decided to limit myself to only posting Saturday and Sunday POGOs I think this may be the ideal solution.

A Victoria Sponge was the favorite sponge cake of Queen Victoria, and has since become a tried-and-true recipe for tea-time sponge cakes. Victoria Sponges are generally filled with jam, and are undecorated on the top, but you can serve each piece with a dollop of whipped cream, or shake some powdered sugar over the top if you’d like.Original recipe makes 1 8-inch cakeIngredients1 cup all-purpose flour

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1 cup confectioners’ sugar

    1 cup butter, softened

    2 eggs, room temperature

    1/2 cup milk, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch springform pan.2.Sift the flour and baking powder into a medium bowl and set aside.3.Cream the butter and sugar together in a medium bowl. Add the eggs, one at a time mixing thoroughly with each addition. Slowly stir the flour mixture in with the butter, sugar, and eggs. Beat in the milk and vanilla until the batter is smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pan4.Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. The mixture should be noticeably lighter in color. Add room-temperature eggs one at a time, allowing each egg to blend into butter mixture before adding the next. Beat in vanilla. Pour in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing until just incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pan.5.Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn the cake out onto a wire rack to cool completely.6.This cake can be served as is, just dusted with confectioners’ sugar. Alternately, cut the cake in half horizontally and sandwich the layers together with jam or custard.

I would possibly see panel 4 as extra, but not worth picking “boat anchors” about. The part, “down the pub” sounds like a small tip to the old language that they used to speak in the nor’east. Strip makes its point, plain and simple...Chris Maple said, about 2 Vermont syrups ago

I thought he was going to use the sponge cake to sop up spilled beer.

That’s what his tongue is for, silly rabbit ! ..I’m surprised the Suthern Cal chapter hasn’t put up his ever popular Victoria recipe. He must not be feeling very “Kinky” today. ..John Pike said, about 8 oven thermometers ago

@Mikeyj-That cake reminds me of my biscuits(Southern type, not British). I make biscuits and the local hockey team buys for practice pucks.

I make biscuits too ! (..but you don’t wanna see um.) ..Just happened to catch the latest Pogo before posting this letter. I that my post office delivers on Sunday. .I hope you get the wobble out of your life before too long, Bugger. ..A good and Glorious day to all my Capper Friends !!!

I don’t know how Florrie’s Geordie Bisquits would do as Hockey Pucks; too flat? But perhaps that Victoria’s Sponge Cake could serve as a Curling Stone? Might be too-heavy or summat. But good to have one handy;never know when One might need summat heavy for ironing-out problems . . .

Thank you. Today has been good too and it is fixing to rain some more. Started out getting hot, then cloudy and cool. Rained while I was in town, but none here until about 20 or more minutes after I got back. Stopped and is threatening to ‘ave another go.-Your comments stayed Bold because you have to put the same bold symbol (asterisk) right next to the last letter of the word you want it to stop at. That is known as, or at least what I call, the STOP command. Italics, font size changes and other stuff needs the STOP command to allow you to return to normal text. I suppose there is one for color; I just don’t know what it is. I have resorted to just installing the command for “Black”, but it has not been the same shade as the usual text. I tend to go darker.-On the WYSL ing, I will keep the volume low so as not to attract attention to the presence of such great beauty that would start a great raucous of hooting and howling the likes of which this century has not seen !-Looking directly below you, I see Linda is in a bad mood. I better avert my gaze.

I knew I had done that… Forget to insert the STOP command. My comment didn’t need to be deleted anyway as I was leaving a message for a few people as they helped me with something and I was thanking them.-Thank you for your information about it though.-I noticed Linda’s ‘day of the week’ mistake but decided to keep it buttoned. If I didn’t then I would get called a Grammar Nazi… Not by Linda of course.-People making spelling errors and typos on GoComics doesn’t bother me. I never point out people’s mistakes. -I hope your weekend has been wonderful.

@BuggerlugsThanks for re-posting the Pogo (and thanks for posting all the other ones, too!) I notice that yesterday’s has disappeared, too. Maybe it’s some weird GoComics policy to disappear them?/Today’s strip reminds me of a Benny Hill routine: His wife puts a sponge cake on the table, and it’s hard as a rock. “This is a sponge cake? I can only assume you call it a sponge cake because you borrowed all the ingredients!”

@ Godfreydaniel, Chalkie, & any interested party.-————Re: Disappearing POGO posts I am going to try an experiment next Saturday: I am going to post a Pogo using the URL from the http://whirledofkelly.blogspot.com/ website, and then the same comic using a hosted URL from my Photobucket account. It will be interesting to see if one or both disappear. Lately I have been using the blogspot URL because it is a little easier to do so.

Tch !!  Some people are so persnickety. I see ‘sensitive’ souls at D.T. too. Think it’s bad here, get on Doonesbury when there’s a hot topical being discussed or… just because.. Is Luann still a war zone ?   I miss SDM/avenger09, even though he shows up once in a rare while.-I aint just sayin’ that to kiss my mailman’s A$$ neither. What kinda Christmas tip do ya give an e-mail man ?..I’ve ate my share of fruitcake and liked it too !Should I bow my head in shame at that admission ? ..Looking forward to your experiments, Bugger. You certainly are able when it comes to bringing your cute Kitties to the page, and I see they are well trained too, as their white surroundings (blue, actually) are still white.-I don’t see harm in pointing out errors, when it’s someone you know and may sometimes only be doing it as a means of good clean (fun) needling. Spelling nazi, grammar nazi… I see that thrown around. Sometimes people have too thin a skin when the person pointing out a “goofy” said it in earnest and wasn’t simply trolling your work. I decapitated-alized “Nazi” in order to bring it down to my level. …And baby, my level is pretty low. Just ask goatKomix !-Thank you, it is good !  My fitness routine seems to be going easier lately, like as if I had been driving with the parking brake on and just remembered to pull it..Signed, Gweedo the Ghost Murray
