Every day is 10 times as long at that age. And 10 times longer than that during Christmas season.

Unfortunately, at 70—-I just aged three years typing this sentence. Time goes by too fast!

Hang in there, Eddie. Don’t build it up so much in your mind ahead of time. Just let it happen as if it was a big surprise, like you did when you were two and three years old. Let yourself be amazed at the beauty and fun of it, seeing family and friends that you only see at important events that you know are a big deal, having food available for everyone with people bringing things, and all the grown-ups consuming this special sauce that only they got to drink. Cherish those specific parts of these times, rather than the presents you get. It’s the stuff you will care most about in twenty years.

No kid will ever take the above advice. I sure wouldn’t have at that age. I was as greedy and selfish as any kid. Quantity was king the first couple of years. Quality entered the equation after maybe five years. I was always feeling somehow let down when there were no more presents, even though I also realized that I, for reasons which were not clear to me, should not have thought and felt that way. It’s all part of the hard work of maturing.

When you’re 5, a year is 20% of your life, of course it feels like a long time. By the time you’re 50, it’s only 2% and goes by fast.
