Interesting artwork that might have been a cover for the “New Yorker”, but I am not sure whether this was intended as a political cartoon or what it’s supposed to be saying.
I see the reading woman as the unaware global citizen while ills surround. It is metaphor for our complacency in the face of all the problems about. And the art is very good.
I see a reader imbedded in a good read, totally uninterested in the cacophony of inane and viral drivel of broadcast media that encircles her. The stash of reads beneath her represents the incredible good and worthwhile writing that is available in library systems. She is seen totally rejecting the broadcast media “noise” in favor of substance in the written word. Also, Rebecca Hendin’s work is First Class.
A definition of Art: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty and/or emotional power.(thank you for this powerful artwork)
