In real life pirates didn’t bury treasure (and ship captains can’t perform marriages). But in books, movies, television, and comic strips they did. So Danae is fully justified in looking for one.
These days, a proper treasure map would lead to another map, which leads to another map, which leads to another map, which leads to another map, which leads right back to where you found the first one.
Kate seemed to have gone all out in trying to convince Danae that the map is genuine, or put clues to tell Danae the map was wrong. In any case, she knew Danae would be greedy
