The real crime is allowing an entire mob to attack the Capitol and then pretend that there is no reason to investigate further. Another crime is doing everything possible to rig the next elections by gerrymandering and changing vote-counting officials and other blatantly nefarious schemes which show a total contempt for democracy and the Constitution. In other words, this entire cartoon is simply an attempt to distract us from paying attention to the most pressing problems.

No law ever stopped a crime.

If you want people to respect the law, build respect with the people you’re trying to protect. Every instance where power is abused y law enforcement is a setback.

Pelosi to create committee on Capitol riot after Republicans blocked commission, reports say

GOP senators refused to back bipartisan body to investigate lethal Trump-inspired effort to stop certification of Biden’s win

Nancy Pelosi is to create a select committee on the Capitol riot after Republicans blocked a 9/11-style commission, reports say.

The House speaker told Democratic colleagues of her intent at a private leadership meeting on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

The committee will be created after Republican senators refused to back a bipartisan commission to investigate the violent attack by Donald Trump’s supporters on 6 January.

Ms Pelosi does not need Republican support to establish the committee.

Five people, including a US Capitol police officer, died when the one-term president’s supporters tried to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory.

Mr Trump was impeached for a historic second time in the wake of the violence, although he was acquitted in the Senate, despite a bipartisan majority of senators voting to convict.

As Charles Blow observes, we are now living in a country where “Democrats are playing an honor game; Republicans are playing an endgame.”

    Blow writes:

Republicans are in win-at-all-costs mode. They don’t really care how they sound today or will be judged by history. The only thing that matters is winning and retaining power, defending the narrative of America that white people created and protecting the power and wealth they accrued because of it.

I say dispense with the phony, wish-driven narrative Democrats are selling. Go down screaming and fighting. Much of the Democratic agenda may be stalled, but never stop reminding voters why it is: not because Democrats haven’t compromised enough, but because they could never compromise enough.

The current status quo is an unwinnable negotiation, because it isn’t a negotiation. This is a war. And in it, all is fair. Republicans have embraced a liar and racist in Donald Trump because their voters embraced him. They have excused and multiplied, in fantastical ways, the insurrection at the Capitol. They are rushing to write voter restrictions that also give them more say over how results are verified. This is the reality we all face, and all Democrats, elected officials and voters alike, need to internalize this now:

They need to go on the record and speak plainly: The Republican Party has given up on the idea of a true and full democracy. They are attempting to tear it down and erect in its place a system that reduces voter rolls and skews the will of the American people.

The United States just brought down Iran state news

“The U.S. seized roughly three dozen websites, the majority of which are linked to Iranian disinformation efforts, said a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case had not yet been officially announced by the American government,” said the report.

Multiple global leaders are working to bring back the 2015 nuclear deal that former President Donald Trump broke with Iran. It’s particularly important as the new anti-west leader Ebrahim Raisi was “elected” in what some are calling a “rigged” election.

So much verbal vomit from the left here. Michael really pulled someone’s strings. Democrats, always blaming legal gun owners when they are not the ones committing the violence. I’d like a lefty here to explain exactly why the main issue with Biden and the Democrats is the semiautomatic AR-15 rifle, when 93% of shooting deaths is done by HANDGUNS.

It’s the big cities run by Democrats that have the overwhelming violence, crimes and murders. I’m happy in my relatively small city with its low crime rate. Go ahead Democrats, defund your police and make them quit and retire from the big cities. We’ll welcome them with open arms in small town USA and watch as you lefties get eaten alive by your own. Note that, the Democrat politicians you keep voting into office have their own personal bodyguards while you ordinarily Joe and Jane citizens have to look out for yourselves. Who you gonna call…

The problem is that so many of the commenters here actually believe what they post. San Francisco does not arrest shoplifters if the total amount they steal is under $950. Some cities do not require cash bail an are then shocked when criminals repeat their violations, often the same day. Felons who commit crimes with firearms get those charges dropped on a regular basis. Add to that the lenient treatment of BLM or Antifa rioters and looters and you have a system that is soft on criminals. It is not about race, it is about turning a blind eye to uncivilized behavior.

Whenever we’ve had a chance to compare how various policies actually work (or don’t) to ameliorate crime, we find that —

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is to provide an environment where young people can not just get ahead but clearly see that they will be able to get ahead within the system. Note: For black kids, systemic racism makes that pretty hard, unless they can excel at sport.

VERY IMPORTANT ALSO: Rapid and obviously fair resolution of criminal acts… proportionate to the size of the crime.

What NEVER works well or for long: Over-armed cops who exert power that’s only slightly related to actual criminal acts, or/and is disproportionate: Being tazed for talking back. Being murdered for holding a phone…

And what precisely, is the ‘crime problem’? 1) Poverty is perhaps one of the most concrete reasons why people commit crimes. Economic deprivation is seen as a major instigator in this regard. 2) Drug addiction. Treat drug addiction as a health problem, not a crime and help addicts. 3) Unemployment (which of course results in poverty), are the top three reasons for crime. We could and should add peer pressure into th mix, but proper firearms regulations will not add to the overall crime rate. It may however, decrease the number of homicides in a country. Liberal policies are directed towards all of the above reasons for crime through lobbying for decent wages, employment and health care. Sheesh!!

‘Shut down the circus’: Wisconsin paper decries Trump’s voter fraud conspiracies as even key GOP figure distances himself

On Wednesday, the Wisconsin State Journal Editorial Board tore into former President Donald Trump’s ongoing conspiracy theories about the presidential election in an editorial demanding the GOP “shut down the circus” of Arizona’s partisan “audit” — and noted that even one of the most powerful Republicans in the state has started to run away from the nonsense.

“Gullible Trump believers have spread the conspiracy theory that tens of thousands of ballots from China were dumped into Arizona’s vote total so President Joe Biden could win,” noted the board. “Despite no evidence to support the wild accusation, Arizona has gone on a state-sanctioned search for bamboo fibers in the paper of ballots in Maricopa County, where most Arizona voters live.”

Even Wisconsin House Speaker Robin Vos, a far-right Trump ally who hired former police officers to help investigate election conspiracy theories, is starting to back away from this, noted the board.

“Rep. Dave Murphy of Greenville, one of four GOP lawmakers who made the trip to Phoenix, is so deep into Trump deception that last week he criticized his own Assembly leader for his skepticism. Murphy called Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, ‘foolish’ for joking about” the Arizona China theory, the board wrote. “The Arizona audit — appropriately dubbed a ‘fraudit’ on social media — won’t be completed until later this summer by Cyber Ninjas, an unqualified and provocatively named company whose top executive is a Trump supporter.”

‘I got to manhandle 5 cops and live to tell’ boasted newly arrested capitol rioter

“The video shows Bingham first turning to confront and shout at Officer Hussain before squaring up with Officer Agyeman and ultimately attacking Officer Agyeman… At some point during the fight, Bingham scratched Officer Agyeman on the right side of his left eye.”

“As Bingham continues to scuffle with the officer, other officers get involved to pull Bingham away from the officer he attacked. Eventually the officers are able to get Bingham away from the officer he attacked and push Bingham towards the doorway w. It takes several other officers to finally push Bingham out of the doorway where Bingham then exits the Capitol.”\

The reports quote social-media posts indicating that Bingham had been in a foyer near where Capitol rioter Ashley Babbitt had been shot. During his altercation with police, Bingham can be heard saying, ""You won’t hurt ANTIFA, but you’ll murder innocent girls!" “Where do you want me to move? Push me again!”

Here is the answer to the Ramirez cartoon.

“We will find you”: Biden signals crackdown on gun dealers who break the law

“Today the [Justice] Department is announcing a major crackdown to stem the flow of guns used to commit violent crimes,” Mr. Biden said. “It’s zero tolerance for gun dealers who willfully violate key existing laws and regulations. And I repeat, zero tolerance. If you willfully sell a gun to someone who is prohibited from possessing it, if you willfully fail to run a background check, if you willfully falsify a record, if you willfully fail to cooperate with inspections, my message to you is this: We will find you.”

Mr. Biden called gun violence an “epidemic” throughout the country and reiterated the cyclical nature of violence with more crime in the summer annually. The president also warned that after the pandemic this “traditional summer spike may be more pronounced.”

Mr. Biden’s speech is centered around the 30% increase in homicides last year during the pandemic across the country, according to a 34-city sample from the National Commission on COVID-19 and Criminal Justice, which was cited by the White House.

Aggravated assaults and gun assaults also rose by 6% and 8% last year, according to the study.
