i know its too much to ask that Summers try to keep up with the news, but shouldn’t his editors at least fact check what’s going on before they print this bs? The caravan was broken up two days ago at the guatemala mexican border. summers should stop being a flack for the gop. oh wait, then he’d starve.

In the late 18th and early 19th century, there was this problem with water – so the ‘caravans’ were boats, and the travelers built this nation into the powerhouse it has become.

Fox News and other right wing media needed something new to scare people with, so they funded another caravan to appear when they needed it.

Caravan? No problem. Through a lack of any initiative we have created over 400,000 vacancies in our great country.

Today, a Republican without a Boogeyman to blame, is like a virus without a host to infect.

Your beloved capitalists and corporations (including Trump) keep hiring them, Dana, and telling them that it’s okay. So unless you want to arrest THOSE people – who are driven by greed instead of desperation – maybe you should leave the desperate, who are simply trying to survive, alone.

And what Joe is doing is certainly better and more humane than torturing people for not having a piece of paper from a bureaucrat.

We need immigration. The US birthrate is currently 1.71. For population stability, it needs to be 2.1:

This means that eventually, we won’t have enough young workers to support our retired population (both in terms of social security payments and the actual work that needs to be done to get us the things we want and need). We can solve this problem cheaply and easily by having sensible legal immigration policy informed by data.

For countries like Japan , the low birthrate (1.42 as of data available today) is a huge problem that they don’t have any easy answers to because immigration is not really tenable there:

Immigration has powered the United States for centuries, and it’s a huge mistake to throw it away because of our xenophobic inclinations.

And whose military has ‘played around’ in Latin America all these years? Financing revolutions, pitting one drug cartel against another? Meddling in the politics of other nations? This ain’t a ‘caravan’, it’s your chickens trying to come home to roost. Try a dose of truth with your Wheaties in the morning.

great! so now Biden can declare a national emergency so he can use defense funding for whatever he chooses per the precedent set by the last administration.
