    This bears repeating:

    The New Colossus

    by Emma Lazarus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Oh, Lord. There’s that RW “Brown Menace” meme again.

Dana, T-p has made the US too much of a S-Hole country to make people want to come here for several years.

i know its too much to ask that Summers try to keep up with the news, but shouldn’t his editors at least fact check what’s going on before they print this bs? The caravan was broken up two days ago at the guatemala mexican border. summers should stop being a flack for the gop. oh wait, then he’d starve.

In the late 18th and early 19th century, there was this problem with water – so the ‘caravans’ were boats, and the travelers built this nation into the powerhouse it has become.

Ginning up that fear again. GOP has no plans for the future, no way to lead us into the future. It is just a black hole of negativity and fear.

Fox News and other right wing media needed something new to scare people with, so they funded another caravan to appear when they needed it.

Caravan? No problem. Through a lack of any initiative we have created over 400,000 vacancies in our great country.

Your beloved capitalists and corporations (including Trump) keep hiring them, Dana, and telling them that it’s okay. So unless you want to arrest THOSE people – who are driven by greed instead of desperation – maybe you should leave the desperate, who are simply trying to survive, alone.

And what Joe is doing is certainly better and more humane than torturing people for not having a piece of paper from a bureaucrat.

We need immigration. The US birthrate is currently 1.71. For population stability, it needs to be 2.1:

    https://www.usnews.com/news/healthiest-communities/articles/2020-05-20/us-births-continue-to-fall-fertility-rate-hits-record-low

This means that eventually, we won’t have enough young workers to support our retired population (both in terms of social security payments and the actual work that needs to be done to get us the things we want and need). We can solve this problem cheaply and easily by having sensible legal immigration policy informed by data.

For countries like Japan , the low birthrate (1.42 as of data available today) is a huge problem that they don’t have any easy answers to because immigration is not really tenable there:

    https://datacommons.org/place/country/JPN

Immigration has powered the United States for centuries, and it’s a huge mistake to throw it away because of our xenophobic inclinations.

Dana would feel much safer if we kidnapped refugee children and performed some forced hysterectomies on young refugee women.

Too bad, so sad. Those crimes against humanity are out with Dolt 45 and the rest of the garbage!

And we need those people. We need their babies to grow up to work and pay taxes to support social security and provide care workers to take care of the boomers who are in their declining years. Our kids are not having enough kids.

Funny how those caravans mysteriously appeared every time the republicans needed to scare their base into voting, and then disappeared just as mysteriously after the elections. Almost as if they never existed in the first place, outside of the right winger fever dream.

And whose military has ‘played around’ in Latin America all these years? Financing revolutions, pitting one drug cartel against another? Meddling in the politics of other nations? This ain’t a ‘caravan’, it’s your chickens trying to come home to roost. Try a dose of truth with your Wheaties in the morning.

Dana is more fearful of a few thousand brown people fleeing horrid conditions than he is of a global pandemic on its way to killing a half million Americans in the not too distant future. Dana, you’ve raised racism to a phobia.
