I hope other women give Akins a crash course on what is and isn’t rape. To me, if it was not consensual, it’s rape..Love is never, ever forced upon someone else. EVER.

scenarios to diet akins: if a 10 yo girl was raped by family member, and got pregnant, is that legit rape? and, provide examples of illegit rape? or, if a woman in a coma gets raped by hospital worker and gets pregnant, is that legit rape? please tell us diet akins since you seem to be an expert on rape. since your education of management engineering, and masters of theology, and your business experience of being a ibm engineer and manager at steel company, and your committee membership on science and tech makes you an expert on rape?

@Ima: You talk real tough, but I don’t think you have the cajones to carry a reminder of horrible trauma for nine months and go through the travails of birthing. It’s nice of you to suggest that women should do that which you could not.

So if a 35-year-old guy had sex with a 13-year-old and got her pregnant, you would advocate forcing her to carry the child to term? Just making sure that Republicans actually believe this.

If we are going to sentence rape victims to 9 months of hell then all crime victims should be sentenced to hell. Oh wait we already do…all the retirees who were fleeced by Wall Street executives (who just received his $32 million bonus) are serving life sentences. And I forget the life sentence that the shooting victims in Aurora got. My bad.

So. You know what it is like to be raped? I understand what your trying to say. But, words like yours dismiss a woman’s emotions, and experience. You come across as a know it all.

I cannot believe ‘You must carry your rape-baby’ is anywhere near a winning strategy. And yet, that ass Aiken has been in Congress a long time

“Scott Aikens was just telling the weird shinola that many Republicans believe to be true. Some of the ideas go back to the Medieval times. How current they are in science.”

There’s a grain of truth behind the idea. While a female orgasm isn’t necessary for conception, it can be conducive to conception; the muscular contractions involved are believed (by some researchers, not all) to provide an “upsuck” of the sperm into the uterus, making conception more likely. Of course, this is a far cry from claiming that, if conception occurs, the woman must have had an orgasm and must therefore have been a willing participant.

Still, let’s imagine that Aikens’ statement is, if not a reflection of the way things ARE, nonetheless the way he thinks things OUGHTTA be. If a woman’s body, on its own and without a conscious act of will, WERE able to divest itself of an unwanted pregnancy, what would be the logical reasoning behind preventing her from terminating said pregnancy consciously and with outside assistance?

Looked at in a certain light, Aikens is halfway towards conceding the desireability of abortion on demand…

Ima, Ima, Ima…Well I got an email from the gocomics “moderater” yesterday— The content of which reinforced my thinking that this thread has “purpose driven” plants woven into it… Sadly, I believe Ima is such an insert…no real human being can be so very delusional and function in the 21st century.

Why don’t you carry a fetus you didn’t want for 9 months and then give it up for adoption?

So … a woman getting raped and getting pregnant and being forced by the Republicans to carry the child to term and give birth is fine, because someone is longing to adopt? Your post could be an advertisement to legalize rape. I am tempted to violate the policy of this site prohibiting characterizing people I disagree with.

Sorry. Look at the party platform the Republicans are putting together. They oppose abortion in ALL CASES, with no mention of rape, incest, or even, drum roll, the life of the mother. And talk to Republicans. Not the person on the street, but the officeholders and office seekers. To be a Republican now, you have to flatly oppose all abortions, period.

Bush/Cheney raped America of it’s sons and daughters and treasure. Too, bad we couldn’t bare down and prevent the illegitimate pregnancy that has given birth to this deformed party known as the Republicants. Reeps have just become whores for the rich, being pimped out by the likes of Adelson and the Koch Brothers.

That’s not the Republican’s point: if a woman is raped, she has to prove it.Still. In this modern age! And Ryan and many other of their ilk have changed the dialogue to “forced” and of course “legitimate” rape to tighten the restrictions on abortion, which is still legal (but just barely) in this country. When rich white guys in power force women in this country what THEIR opinions are, then we’re in deep, troubling waters

So you want a rape victim to carry out the lost wages from not being able to work for a few months AND adoption agency fees? Let’s hope all rape victims have money saved up just in case…

But what American couple would want to adopt a child whose father was a psychopathic rapist? When it’s so much easier to go to Somalia and adopt one.

That’s because there’s more hoops to jump through in order to adopt. Something Conservatives conveniently forget.

Ima: my friends had fostered a little girl, and had filed to adopt her. The maternal grandmother filed for custody, and the state awarded the little girl to her instead. Two weeks after gaining custody, the grandmother’s “boyfriend” raped and murdered the little four-year old. My friends were absolutely devastated.

Your ignorance of “the real world” is pathetic.

Ah, yes. A strong and valid declaration you shaped and delivered, Doc….At times I am “guilty as charged”, succumbing to the wild winds of emotion and lashing out at bedrock stupidity in a manner unseemly for a defender of liberalism. As Stephen Colbert is fond of reminding us, “Facts tend to have a liberal bias”.I shall endeavor to continue lighting that single candle and refrain (mostly) from cursing the darkness.
