Anesthesia probably was used just to restrain her…not to spare her discomfort.

maybe they left her alone and she was able to make a run for it? that’s what I would do if I had just become a healthy young animal, full of a new wildness she never has known WE all have strong survival instincts, but usually in humans they are tamped down .

Drs hate it when the patient wakens in the middle of surgery, even more when the patient attempts to correct a mistake the surgeon is making. I told one surgeon to quit complaining about his wife and attend to the work of installing a Jewett Nail and sideplate. He still used the wrong size and it broke within three months. I also awoke and told another surgeon installing an external fixator to my lower rt tib and fib, that he was putting a screw in a weak part of my foot and I had always been flatfooted, take off my left sock and look how flatfooted I was, and that was neither the proper time nor modality to give one of my feet an arch without addressing my hip structure. Both of those Drs lost their temper with me while operating on me. The 2d Dr ordered seven emergency anesthesias during one operation. I was right, the tarsal bone broke within a week leaving my EFD unanchored. Usually surgeons will listen and occasionally take my advice, I had two great orthopedic surgeons who would appreciate my feedback during surgery when I was supposed to be under a general anesthesia, ie., unconscious. But anesthesiologists have to be careful not to overmedicate a patient to the point of not waking up from anesthetic. Flask is looking at surgical tools. Drs really get upset if you try to use their tools to work on yourself. I just realised I have spent far too much time in the operating rooms of hospitals.

My wife woke up during an appendectomy to hear the anesthetist telling fishing stories. When he was told she was awake, he put her to sleep for the rest of the day.

It’s hard to tell from the above image, but it’s likely that Flask tried as much to pull “twitchy” out from the roots as she did trying to bite through it. Can’t say if the Topsider bobbed her to keep it from happening again or if it was because that’s all that was left of the stump. I’d guess that the probe was just going to knock her out anyway to allow the Topsiders to take her from the pit to play with in the “rumpus room”.

Interesting. Even in a supposed sterile environment like an operating roon, they still wear the biosuits. Purity of the race be damned! They wear those things to avoid smelling each other’s B.O.

Thank you, Aaron, for not showing us just how Philomena took her tail off. Some things are simply best left to the imagination…

This arc is answering SO many Flask questions. Soooooo interesting… Please don’t tell me this is the end of her!!!

Don’t kill anybody. Puncture suits. That will create more chaos and make escape easier. And given topsiders’ beliefs it may be the nastiest thing you can do to them.

I see her slicing suits and trying to breach environmental containment. Let them become the monsters that they are.

I have also awakened during surgery – the worst thing is the paralitic drug they also give you – you are awake, but can’t move…I heard the dr tell the anesthesiologist to give me more or he would get someone who could. When I told him about it later, he couldn’t believe I remembered. I had told him I wake up like that, he said he would make sure I didn’t. Yeah – right.

Believe me, when you are sitting there after they have done something to you, you want to flee the building I understand why so many people want to leave without going through the hospital procedures. All you want is to get away.

Chaos is nice but war has taught me not to go out of ones way to really piss off the enemy, that will make them only more determined to come after you!

One time, I woke up from surgery to the sound of my rapid heartbeat from a monitor. Couldn’t open my eyes at all, but i was completely alert. When I started to speak, I could hear the shuffling around the room. I kept asking why is my heart beating so fast (which of course was making me more anxious and making my heart beat faster…). They put a mask on me and told me to breath in – and I was out cold. Then I woke up a SECOND time. Again, couldn’t open my eyes so I just started talking to whoever it was standing beside my head. She kept telling me to go back to sleep but I told her I was scared to, so I just talked about my family the entire time. Waking up was not fun! :( It might have begun with an obsession to get rid of the tail, but it will be what “saves” her from death by the topsiders…. Loving the arc! Thanks AN!

Agree with you about the tail. Flask had never had it fully extended until after she was captured, imprisoned, and tortured. Until then she was still in the biosuit (with her tail confined) and seemed to be getting around ok.

I’d guess screaming would suit the TSers just fine…but a hissing, clawing, fighting being that had just torn or bitten off its own tail would be difficult to handle unless tranqilized.

Something thst’s a bit odd: Flask has said that this unnamed Immune was the only man she’d ever loved. Yet, in this story—which is a flashback—she NEVER mentions his name. Why would that be? Did she ever know it? Is saying it too painful?

“And while you’re at it the BEST way to support Aaron and the books is to write/post a review of them on Amazon. Lot’s of reviews draws interest from other (new) people. So if you’ve bought the books PLEASE go to Amazon and post even a short review. Dadof 3 and I both did, and we are both very much alive! "Forgive me for repeating this paragraph, but it needs repeating. If you have the Endtown books, please post reviews of them on Amazon, Goodreads, and anywhere else you think is appropriate. Aaron needs the visibility and the story deserves a larger audience. The egomaniacal duck living in his head will thank you.
