One of my best friends graduated from Penn State recently, started a career as a weatherman. He wasn’t on any sports teams, but he held his Penn State Sports in such high regard that it’s breaking my heart as well.
That’s always been the problem with big-time college sports: the (nearly literal) WORSHIP of the programs, the coaches, and the players, by people who SHOULD know better (what with attending schools of higher education and all…….) The best summary I’ve seen was that “Paterno was a liar who was fired too late and died too soon.” If he were alive today he would very likely be facing several criminal charges. And for those who say that the sanctions aren’t fair for the players: they are all allowed to transfer elsewhere with no penalties. We’ll soon see if any of them are students or whether they’re all just athletes.
Deliberately choosing to turn a blind eye to multiple counts of child rape so as not to tarnish the image of your sports program outweighs a whole lot of football wins.
It’s like that old joke about screwing a goat— you get caught one time and what does anyone remember?
In your mind how many children can a coach let get raped hundreds of times each before that’s what he’s remembered for? The current trial was just for rapes committed since 1998, but Sandusky started Second Mile in 1977, and victims from that era are starting to come forward.
But the only one too get “sudden death” was for paying athletes (how unique!) and perjury by a school president who was protected by the corporate media lest it be discovered before he was elected governor!. I haven’t worn my SMU ring since.

I like the “To the Showers” sign. Is it significant?

Sorry, but this is as it should be. Punishment should be leveled for enormity of the neglect on Penn State’s part.

“to get” stuttering finger, not ignorance of grammar.

Was Sandusky a scout master too?
