And then there are the toll roads that always have plenty of funding. They start repairs/expansion at one end and work their way to the other, and then they come back. There’s always work going on SOMEWHERE.

Dang, driving across the country many times in the ’50’s (before freeways) it was Burma Shave signs, summer asphalt “bumps” and billboards. Route 66: “Petrified Dinosaur Eggs, Take One Home To Your Mother In Law”
The province of Ontario did something like this a couple of years ago. For some reason they though accidents would decrease if drivers were educated by signs. Some examples of this very expensive project:Fatigue Kills – Take a RestIf You Can’t See – Don’t Passbut the all time winner in my books:Large Vehicles Need More Room. How did we ever survive on the roads without these ‘educational’ signs??
Very STIMULATING. We had a little different approach to the Recovery Act and highway work; the flagmAn became flagmEn with a specialization in jobs, one to hold the Slow/Stop sign, one to hold the radio, and one to communicate between those two. now the work of two became the work of SIX – (sorry, that wasn’t funny, but it was true)
Several years ago, a friend was going from Keokuk, Ia to the Black Hills in a motorcycle convoy. Before he left, I asked him to keep his eyes peeled and let me know if he happened to see any signs for Wall Drug Store.Who?Wall Drug Store.OK, I’ll look for them.

All the Burma Shave signs remind me of Fred Allen’s comment…
“I’ve read better poetry on Burma Shave signs with the last two posts missing!”
