I remember thinking VCRs were so high tech when they came out. I’m suddenly feeling reeeeeally old.

My mom’s first VCR could store 14 channels but she didn’t have cable so she only got seven, and her TV wasn’t built for remote control. The VCR did but it was only Up/Down so I set it up so one cycle through the stored channels took her through her broadcast channels twice, and she used the VCR remote as a TV remote.

I still use them. Comcast’s first fallback when they can’t fix their problem is to swap out the DVR with stored programs. They can’t steal my VCR and tapes. Also, can watch tapes when the cable service is out, but not stored DVR programs. Do also use DVR.

This reminds me of “Touch of Evil” when Orson Welles and Marlene Dietrich were talking about the player piano in her bar. “The customers go for it. So old it’s new.”

Year long tally: 28 Nonsensical : 242 Realistic] Thank you Robb for today’s realistic and funny comic!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++This is very funny on many different levels!!!! I used to have a top load VCR too… and actually thought it was a lot “cooler” than a front load VCR. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I am not a Luddite by any stretch of the imagination, but in my household we have three functioning VCRs for recording shows and watching shows we have recorded. Additionally, we have a DVD player for watching movies and such. Also, our televisions are all still cathode-ray tube style (no HD). Again, it is not that I am a Luddite…. I would love to have the latest technology and all the gizmos and bells and whistles….but what I am is a damn stingy, penny-pincher. I really feel bad tossing out or getting rid of something that is still functional and useful. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I know the day will come when I will either a) need a new television (the big one breaks) or b) the VCRs break. When that day comes, Then, I will willingly move en masse to an HD television and whatever the current recording device is at that time (the DVR is likely going to be way “out” by that time).

I won a vcr in a raffle when they first came out. I was away on a business trip when when the drawing was held. I got home and my wife said "who is Cathy, why does she have our phone number, and what the **** is a vcr?

we still have a ton of vhs movies, Disney, Pokemon, etc…whenever a relative decides to clean them out they give them to us for our 2yr old to watch. at least when he tries to shove them in the vcr backwards it’s not as scary as finding him with a dvd out of the case.

I don’t understand why the stores that rented/sold VHS movies had to get rid of their VHS movies just because DVDs came outt. They could have had VHS movies side by side with DVDs.

I have tons of vhs tapes with all kinds of shows and movies recorded. I doubt any of them will play in our current VCR. Simply from age. We still use our VCR I record “Days Of Our Lives” and he records the Western Channel and SyFy channels mostly. The VHS tapes are really hard to find anymore, so we take super great care of the few good ones we have left. Have 2 unopened yet.
