Pat Oliphant for August 18, 2011
Transcript:
John Boehner: Hey, Mitch - those two guys appear to be drowning - should we throw out that life ring to old Sam? Mitch McConnell: Don't see what good that'd do - he'd only go and share it with that Obama feller. Uncle Sam: In these situations, it's best not to rely on Republicans for help, I've heard. Obama: In these situations, it's best to do nothing until help arrives, I've heard.

How about we send all of these bums up the river?

Republicans are giving Rush Limbaugh his wish; never mind what happens to the Country, just as long as Obama fails. Sad!

Look at that fishin’ line Mitch has. Who taught him to fish?

As someone said here a while ago the Dems are as much Nazis (National Socialist Party) as the Republicans are Sadaam’s Republican Guard.Perceptor3, the debt limit was raise pro forma a couple dozen times since Reagan, without this game of Russian Roulette. If Obama had rushed to raise the limit before the 2010 elections, the right would have accused him of treason anyway. Of course the right seems good for little else than accusing everyone else of treason.

The “debt limit” is poorly named. It has always been raised as a pro forma thing because it really has NOTHING to do with how much debt we owe. It only says that we intend to make sure we pay the money that Congress has already spent, NOT that we are going to spend more. That is why S&P decided to downgrade the US credit standing – because the Republicans threatened that we would no longer pay our existing debts, and I would think it should be unconscionable to any reasonable person that our country would renege on its debts. Who should we not pay – our troops, our contractors, the countries that have loaned us money? Not paying Congress I can see, but the other people not so much.

“The Democratic National Socialist Party.”

Oliphant is right on the mark… as usual. The guy has a gift.

The part this toon leaves out is the Demos who actually pushed the guy into the lake…

The President has been waiting, futiliely, for Rs to help fix the country, instead of obstructing anyone who tries. Note that this argument would have no validity if the Rs would even offer an idea on how to help. None have been forthcoming.

National Socialist parties (Nazi, Baath) have always been strong on ethnic nationalism, & weak on socialism (for that portion of the populace not of la raza, the race). It would be as accurate to call the tea party “People’s Republicans.”The tea party may have a point, Reaganomics defeated the Iron Curtain political apparatchiks through bankruptcy. If we can bankrupt the American political parties, we might have a future.

I feel your pain, masters. I’m from Virginia, where we sent that posing idiot Cantor to the House.Oliphant is spot on. When a party puts political considerations ahead of the good of the country, they should be called out on it.

@grayhaired, it’s unusual that i agree with you, butthe left wingnuts DID push obama into the water.
dannysixpack over 12 years ago
@Bailey
the republicans stick together. the democrats are a mob. that is why the republicans can rule the country as a minority, and the dems can’t even pass a budget with a majority in both houses.
it is sad, but when obama wasn’t “left” enough, the left side wingnuts didn’t support him and were no better than the right side wingnuts (and right moderates).
if obama can’t count on the dems to support him, he has no choice but to move to the right. it’s what bill clinton was forced to do – and why i call him the greatest republican president in my lifetime.
his move to the right also totally inflamed the republicans so they have changed their handbook. in the past neither party was happy to actively destroy the country in order to get their way. Now it IS the republican handbook.

The GOP would ride shotgun with the Apocalypse if by chance Obama would be affected.
