^Thus saving tens of thousands of jobs, most of the entire auto industry in the US (since GM made parts for everyone, including Toyota), and getting its money back as GM is now profitable and made dramatic changes it has needed to do for years. I’d say that’s a pretty good investment.Try looking at the Iraq and Afghanistan wars instead…
For what we’ve spent invading Iraq and Afghanistan (neither of which were necessary) we could all have full medical coverage and a college education. But we’d rather keep throwing money down those bottomless pits than do anything useful.
Toyota and Honda ARE the “domestic auto industry”— more parts made in the U.S. than on GM, Chrysler, or Ford, where thanks to Bush they’re allowed to declare “North American Content”- as in Canada and Mexico- not the U.S..
The above comic is only what the lapdogs in the media will allow us to see. What really happened was an explosion that ripped all of the clothes off of his back, and left him completely dazed and confused. We cannot ever be left with the perception that B.O. is anything other than a sock-puppet (which is all that he is).
Even the Chicago School of Economics lays most of the blame for our current situation on the deregulation of 2000 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, trying to get the genie back in the bottle may look to some like “socialism” but we are finding we needed the regulation and protections of Glass-Steagall.
Asaid: “Social benefits” are NOT “socialism” or “Marxism”- which by the way isn’t really “communism”. A little old Vietnamese dude pointed out to one of our officers that “saving us from Communism”, was probably NOT to their benefit, as being agrarian rice growers in small interdependent villages, “communism”, as in small “c”, had been their way of life for 3,000 very successful years.
We don’t opposed “government” trying to keep drunk drivers off our roads, or building them for the common good and profit (cheaper than private toll roads too), or providing police and fire protection. We also need regulation to protect the “commons” from grafters and thieves in industry. T.R. recognized this, and as a progressive Republican, his efforts paid off, until later Republicans did away with controls, and the defense of the “commons”. Their actions led to the “great depression”, and the crashes of the 80’s, 90’s, and 2008.
So far Republicans and their media cohorts have accused or insinuated Obama is a foreigner, Muslim, terrorist, socialist, and communist. Then there was the “is he too black to be President?” and the “is he black enough to be President?” lines of BS. Bachmann made critizised him for [gasp!] working within his community. Are there any other boogie men you can associate with Obama to scare the base? Some people would say he’s a puppy kicker! Is there a possibility he’s in league with the devil in a plot to destroy the planet and send all the “Christians” to Hell???O M G!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! OBAMA IS NOT ONE OF “US”!!!!!!!!!

Saving tens of thousands of jobs and a major portion of an industry is a b!tch, ain’t it!

So you must have loved Milton’s work with the dictator Pinochet in Chile. Is that your grand vision for the US?
