While I’m certain there are racists on both sides, I’m not sure that racism plays as large a role in all of this as we have heard from some.
That said, there is no denying that throughout the campaign much of the rhetoric about Obama made him out to be “the other” who is “not like us”. This kind of imagery was used especially by Sarah Palin, whose folksy Americana was supposed to make her the anti-Obama. (Ironically, she was the one dividing America into “us” and “them”.)
And that sentiment has grown since then. I think that this is what lies at the heart of much of the protests we see now.
It’s unfortunate, because it has nothing to do with actual conservatism. Somewhere out there in the crowds there are actual conservatives (like GNWachs) who have actual arguments to be made. But they are getting drowned out by the hatred.
I should follow that up by saying that I completely disagree with those real conservative arguments, but democratic society functions much better when we can have those discussions instead of the acrimonious hate-fests we’ve been seeing.
Get another sign guy and add the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman, Catdog, Alberto Gonzalez, Health Insurance Companies, AIG, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Bernie Madoff…
Yes, yes, I know the sign-holder is supposed to represent your idea of the typical “right winger”, but since you’ve all become obsessed with Palin-hatred she should have become just another symbol for “EVIL TYRANT”, deserving space on any list of bad people.
Oh yeah, SeniorBS, good one, let’s keep kickin’ that nasty, evil, Dick Cheney! Do you morons ever think for yourselves or do you simply react to ingrained buzzwords planted into your robotic brains by the DNC and the vast, left-wing media conspiricy? I’m talkin’ ta YOU TOO EZDEB!
CHARLIE, BIG FELLA, didn’t you read my added comment? (intended to clarify the Palin nomination for liberals who often display a lack of ability to catch the subtleties and nuances of truly enlightened humorists) And of course my thoughtful, gently worded response to senor B.S. should leave no doubt as to where I stand, si?

Where’s Osama Bin Laden? ( Drug Limbaugh once actually DID liken Obama’s agenda to Al-Qaeda’s agenda. )
