Man: Vow to keep costs down and wait for things to get back to normal. Man 2: Yikes! How do we of the health care industry out of this? Punk: Your normal that is.
If only this were true. So far as I know Obama has not yet come out in favor of universal health care (I may be completely wrong, if so I apologize). Right now he’s just trying to cut costs.
Lt_Lanier: You mean you don’t have to wait for that sort of thing in the US? Come on. You can wait months here, too. And if you don’t have insurance, you don’t worry about waiting, because you won’t get squat any way. And that’s about 50,000,000 of our fellow Americans.
My family has been in insurance/banking biz for 140 years out of West Point, and considering that I’ve had a recent emigre cousin leave London, Ontario for a liver transplant at UAB, yeah, I think we’ve got it better, albeit not perfect, I admit, here in the U.S.
Gentle posters: Please take note that opponents of a single payer, universal health care system will invariably continue trotting out the old “waiting list” saw. Bless them, the righties may not have any ideas fresher than a stale box of Space Food Sticks, but they certainly have their talking-point taglines down. The sad reality about the cons’ “axims of evil” is that (a) they rely heavily on frightening the public, and (b) they usually hit home with a punch-drunk and television-addled American public.
I’m an American transplant living in Canada, and no, you do NOT have it better in the US. We live a year and a half longer at roughly half the cost, and we cover everyone. When there’s a problem with the health care system, we have an open and public debate about it, because this is a democracy and it belongs to us, not to some profiteering insurance company. Oh, how I could go on, but I won’t…

I’m sure that the CEOs have more than enough paid health benefits to undo anything the bulldozer will do to them.

I’m so glad to finally hear a Canadian stick up for their health care – which sounds incredible better than the mess we have here.
