Good luck catching the one they’re swimming away from. Of course in reality, there aren’t many sea creatures man couldn’t make a meal out of. Puffer fish from the wild are dangerous; but if you’re breeding them in captivity and keeping them on the right diet, they’re perfectly safe.
They aren’t afraid of you. It’s the apex predator behind you. Several years ago, I was driving in Newfoundland, when I saw a moose standing in the middle of the highway ahead of me. I stopped a safe distance from him and waited for him to move. Eventually he ambled into the woods, but I don’t think that my little Prius scared him off. It was probably the semi coming up behind me!
